Design a circuit to collect (harvest or couple) AC power from the EMFs generated by overhead 3 phase AC electric transmission lines/circuits in order to power a remote, autonomous, 30 W field computer and sensor system. Such systems are located at the periphery of high-voltage transmission line ROWs (Rights Of Way). Minimum distance to the overhead phase conductors is ~ 20 meters. Power harvesting/coupling mechanism and design can be based on AC Magnetics (induction) or AC Electrostatics; I have significant experience in sensing and in obtaining power using AC Magnetic Induction, and would prefer an AC Electrostatic Approach. A DC Output is desired, but low-voltage (<220 Vac) could be used. High-voltage overhead transmission lines/circuits range from 69 - 765 kV and, typically, carry 100 - 1000 A. Initial work should target 500 kV with a 500 A load.

My team has been working on a prototype using some off the shelf parts and its time to get it designed into a PCB. While we have a little EE experience, we figured it would be much easier to have someone else handle the PCB design. Basically right now we have a prototype built from a few off the shelf parts (sparkfun stuff mostly). Our final product will basically be a stepper motor that is controlled via bluetooth LE. Right now we're using the following: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13729 microcontroller+bluetooth LE device. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12859 Motor driver, we're using this to drive the stepper motor (at about 1.7A, and 12V) https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10617 We're using this to read the battery charge, though I'm sure there's an easier way if we're designing our own PCB. The last part that we don't have anything for yet is a built-in lipo charger. We need 12v, so we're looking at doing a 3 lipo cells. I've done some research and it looks like there's a bunch of battery management chips from maximintegrated that would do the job. They have schematics for completing things. https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/datasheet/index.mvp/id/6207 The board would charge through a DC jack. Lastly, we would probably have a few LED's controlled from the microcontroller. Basically we're looking to combine all of this onto one board. I have a requirement for a highly experienced Embedded Firmware design engineer who can design hardware and firmware. Typical jobs will require liaison with the client, development of an SRS and machine specification, design & design capture (OrCad preferred), pcb layout, firmware design and implementation. Several of our previous jobs have also required Android and iOS smartphone apps. Knowledge of these and an ability to develop such apps would be a great bonus. You must have experience and a working lab with the usual suspects in terms of electronic debug equipment, and you must be able to devote 20 hours per week to the jobs we win together.
