I'd like to hire you to participate in a conceptual film project that I've been working on for over the past year with various people from this website who have little to no experience in film.
The project is as follows. Over the past year I have been making a film with zero creative input of my own. I divided the stages of making a film into seven Phases (listed below) and provided comprehensive formal/logistical instructions for each phase. I then hired each phase to the least qualified bidder from UpWork willing to do the job for $10. The total budget for the film is $100 total, each phase has been completed for $10. Each phase was completed to rigorous standards, by people who were not professionals in the field but were nevertheless dedicated to working professionally, all in different countries, and the films are remarkable. I've been working on three films simultaneously in this exact way.
They were written in India, Egypt, and Jamaica - Storyboarded in Ukraine, Bangladesh, and Argentina - Shot in Russia, Ireland, and Germany. Now it's time for them to be edited and I would like to hire you to edit ONE of these. Each script is 10 pages long.
The phases are writing, storyboarding, directing, editing, sound score, color correction, PR/release),
This phase is editing. There is no sound design, or color work needed from you - just the timely cutting and delivery of the materials that have already been shot.
Because of the work that needs to take place after editing this phase will take place in two phases.
Phase 1 will be the actual cutting of the video and audio recorded during the shoot. This is where 90% of the work will happen.
Phase 2 will be laying in the sound score that will be created after the edit, and creating credits at the beginning and end of the film that will reflect all of the work that has taken place before and after the editing.
You will be provided
1) the original script
2) a storyboard of the script
3) A link to a folder containing audio and video material collected by the director
4) a list of project participants and their roles
5) a short set of logistical instructions
The ideal applicant is simply excited to edit a movie and be part of a worldwide project. Most importantly they must be a creative problem solver who appreciates the high quality of work that can result from a challenging situation. They must be able to strictly follow the guidelines of a script and storyboard while creatively shaping the material. The ideal applicant is not necessarily a professional or experienced editor...I am far more interested in people with less experience who are excited to take this seriously.
This can be done by anyone, anywhere. You can do this with your family, roommates, co-workers, or colleagues. Accommodating locations in script can be solved as you see fit.
The material you will be given is brutal, but it can 100% be shaped into something amazing. That is where you come in.
The plan will be to show these films in the locations where they were produced. Based on my history of showing work abroad I am very hopeful that this is a real possibility.
This entire film is getting made for $100. The writer was paid $10, the storyboard artist was paid $10, and after this step the Editor, Composer, Colorist, and PR will each be paid $10 which leaves you with $40 - you can dispense this as you please between yourself, the actors, or just to buy some coffee or a case of beer, snacks, cover gas, whatever.
For the sake of transparency this is the budget Structure for Film
1. Writing - $10.00
2. Storyboard - $10.00
3. Shooting (Directing+ 3 Actors) - $40.00
4. Editing - $10.00
5. Sound Score - $10.00
6. Color Correction - $10.00
7. PR / Release - $10.00
