The focus of this module is to encourage you to embrace the unfamiliar and problem solve to become future innovators of design for your chosen subject specialism.
You are required to undertake the full design process for a chosen focus within your pathway subject specialism. The focus of your design project is to be selected by you.
You are required to build upon your current experience and skills by experimenting with different design development styles and explore new viewpoints for design development opportunities. Evolve your understanding and technical skills for the subject area in order to demonstrate your potential to innovate within the subject area.
The course work should consist of:
• Research (primary, secondary, technical and inspirational).
• Design Development (communicating a thorough and critical design process, including all of the design styles covered in the taught seminar series).
• 2D – 3D experimentation and development.
• Final design(s) illustration/specification.
• Resolved 3D prototype(s).
Module Learning Outcomes:
This module will take you through research, experiment, making and evaluating so you can identify your personal strengths, which may be in new areas of design, using new skills.
•LO1: Develop research and analytical skills to show evidence of design development and aesthetic analysis.
•LO2: Demonstrate innovative thinking in the solving of design issues.
•LO3: Reflect on and evaluate your own work and consider feedback in order to identify personal strengths within contemporary design.
•LO4: Explore advanced experiments in using materials and techniques in 2D and 3D designs.
•LO5: Show that you are self-motivated and an independent thinker in your approach to your studies.
