I work in a paper file environment. In the course of my work I log items to work on in an excel file. For an individual job (workflow) I will log a number, type of job, jurisdiction, description, due date, received date, log date. I will then take that information and hand write it on a piece of paper. Example attached. I need a way to transfer that information to a word document so I can print the piece of paper and keep it with the working file. Once the job is completed, this piece of paper acts as a tool for indexing in the file. I have attached a spreadsheet of what a hand written log sheet looks like. In any given day, I will need to only log one or two jobs. Occasionally I will need to log multiple jobs. I would like to have a word file that can print off the most recently updated items, as soon as I add them. I would like to have a word file that can handle a number of new workflows at a time. I will be looking to make a dash board out of the excel file for purposes of tracking various inputs. So any excel or word file would hopefully be able to handle being updated.

High Level Objective: I need to reconcile a list of transactions to another list of transactions and identify the differences. Reason: Data has changed since VAT submissions were made and I need to reconcile data between what exists in the systems now and what was submitted on a UK VAT. Details: I have a detailed list transactions from (from an accounting package) that make up the VAT submission amounts for the last 5 quarters and a list of transactions that now exist in those quarters. This data is in 2 flat worksheets in excel in the same format. I need to understand: 1) Which transactions no longer exist that have been submitted previously 2) Which transactions are new and need to be submitted 3) Which transaction have been modified (i.e. amount changed) since submission 4) Any other transaction changes not discussed above The list of transactions that make up the 4 categories above should equal the difference between the VAT returns submitted and the amounts that exist today and should be able to be presented in a pivot table showing the reconciliation. The exercise can be performed manually however would be much quicker to perform using excel tools if the logic can be made to work. The excersise has been started and much of the data is present. Example: In the screenshot below the data discussed is pivoted into two tables sorted by quarter (along the top) and amount (the values). The dark green boxes show an example matching value. The dark red box shows an example mismatched value. In the red example I would like to see what made up the difference of 7,123 in a list of transactions. Notes: This is a data analysis only exercise for information only and will not require the submission or sign off on any numbers too HMRC. All the data required exists within excel.
