Please read this carefully before contacting me. I will not hire people with poor reading comprehension skills.
I'm looking for someone to teach english literature from home.
There will be small classes conducted remotely using phones and some kind of video chat like skype.
The students will be mostly elderly folks who are themselves at home. The classes serve 2 purposes:
- The obvious one is teaching.
- Even more importantly, they'll provide social interaction and mental stimulation for people who are home alone and get lonely.
This means that in addition to being familiar with the material, you must be able to teach in a style which will engage and interact with the students.
I think that teaching is one of the most noble occupations. We entrust teachers to prepare ourselves and our children for dealing with the world. I've done a little bit of teaching and it was fun and extremely rewarding. In addition to all of the usual upsides of teaching, with this job you'll be improving the lives of elderly folks who are having a rough time.
It's likely that the first class will be on Shakespeare but there's some flexibility here.
You'll need to have a computer with a webcam and reliable broadband internet. If you can use skype or google video chat, you should be all set. You'll also need a phone with the ability to make long distance calls for the duration of the classes.
We'll start with a small time commitment, maybe a couple of lessons. If there's a good fit we'll do more.
I'm a fun and relaxed guy, although I have a high bar for the people I work with. If you think you might be a good fit, please get in touch. Please put the word "pumpkin" on the first line above your message so I know that you read the whole job description :-)
I look forward to hearing from you!
