We need to develop a few scripts to manipulate raw text documents (Microsoft Word) before they are laid out for print production.
More than simple search and replace, we would likely need to do intelligent regex-type wildcare searches and text transformations to automate what is now a nearly completely manual process.
Additionally we want to create a search and replace routine from a user created database/table to abbreviate a now-manual language translation process. Our users would maintain a table of before-and-after phrases that the script would sort by length and then sequentially apply to a QuarkXpress document.
We would prefer Applescript as it can be user activated from within the source documents native applications (Microsoft Word and QuarkXpress). As we understand it Visual Basic is no longer supported on the Macintosh platform. We are, however, willing to discuss other approaches.
