I need a design and working prototype for a ultra low cost and power usage device that is capable of reading data (read-only protocol that has similarities with serial/TTL) from the (DSMR P1 standard, see attachment document for specification of version 2 and 4 of the protocol) P1 port (3 wire) on a Smart Meter (Consumer Electrical usage meter).
The Smart Meter sends out a text message every 10 seconds . This message must be forwarded to a (preset) global/Internet DNS name by UDP on Ethernet (10Mbits). There is no need for any caching/storing or fault tolerance for messages, just fire and forget. Everything that is not strictly needed (power leds, status lights, etc) and uses power or add's cost to the design should be skipped. The device should run on AA batteries. The device will run 24/7/365 so power efficiency is crucial (even more than cost per unit).
Device function in short: When there is power (batteries are connected) the device should request (DHCP) a IPv4 address (including subnet, gateway and DNS) on the RJ-45 port and start forwarding the messages (from the RJ-11 port) to the preset DNS name by UDP to a global/Internet IP on the RJ-45 port.
For our field test we need 3 prototypes. I like to receive a fixed quote for the design and creation of this 3 prototypes. You need to deliver 3 working prototypes, design documentation so you/third party can build the device in production.
