So, I'm currently working on upgrading my PCB. One of the things I wanted to have is RF (2.4GHz) support. Now, I'm new to RF, and I want this done properly, which is why I'm posting here. My current design has a nRF24L01+ chip and a chip antenna. I basically follow what https://www.sparkfun.com/products/691 does, and they in turn follow what is done in the datasheet.
However, as I'm not experienced with RF, and I'm not sure what I'm doing is correct. And, I have these "huge" pads for Wii Nunchuck support, which I don't know will be an issue. More about the whole thing can be found here: http://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/adding-rf-to-my-treadgaming-project
So, I'm posting here in case someone feel they can help me out. I'm no stranger using a PCB trace antenna instead of a chip antenna (IFA, inverted 'F' antenna?) either. But again, you need to know what you are doing. Trace antenna would make the board cheaper to produce, so if it's done properly, I don't mind that solution at all. The distance the RF needs to reach isn't many meters as you can imagine. However, I want something that can be approved by FCC later.
Since I'm working in kicad, you must know how to use that.
An added bonus would be if you optimized the PCB board layout making it as small as possible, but otherwise this is just for the RF part, including traces (as I'm not sure what width and length those should be).
