I'm looking for some quick advice and will pay $20 to the person who can best answer these questions for me as part of research I am conducting. If you already know of a solution I shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes of your time.
I need to develop a web-based solution for generating PDF documents based on Word documents that are added to the server from a simple CMS that I will build. These word documents will need some sort of placeholder for inserting a batch number on the fly, entered by the customer in a web form. So the main content of the PDF is held in a Word doc on the server, the customer enters a batch number from the website form, this batch number is then inserted in the document and the content from the Word doc is generated as a PDF document (including teh inserted batch number) that the customer can download.
I explored systems such as Apache-FO and TCPDF, but these are too fiddly to adminster. The content of the documents change often and can be quite complex (tables, illustrations etc) and there are no standard document types/layouts, so creating and managing these will take too much time. I know that there is a technical solution which works with Word, but I don't know what it is and what server environment and libraries etc are required.
If anyone knows the answer to this, please let me know!
