Please review the attached image. It is the electrical component of a small food cooker. Additional pictures, as well as drawings of the circuit blueprint are available and will be shared at the start of the job or if you need additional clarification before bidding.
Essentially, this circuit is as simple as it can get. When the appliance is plugged in, the rectangular thermostat in the middle of the base turns on, and the circular heating element warms the container and the water within. When the water boils away, and the thermostat causes the temperature of the metal container to rise, the piece of metal on top of the thermostat snaps down, turning the thermostat off, while simultaneously completing the connection to the small led light, which indicates to the user that the food is ready.
This project involves updating this circuit to address the following issues, while still keeping it very inexpensive and easy to make.
(1) There is no way to control whether the thermostat is on or off when plugged in. Because the circuit is so simple, as soon as the appliance is plugged in, the thermostat turns on. It would be if there was some off/on switch so that the appliance did not turn on until the user desired to turn it on.
(2) Cycling. As described above, once the water evaporates and metal container begins to get very hot, the metal plate snaps down turning the thermostat off and the light on. However, once the metal cools again and folds back, the thermostat will turn back on and continue the cycle. We need the thermostat to stay off until the user turns it back on. As you can see this ties nicely into issue #1
(3) Light. The light used is an led light. Is there something that is better/cheaper/more reliable that we can use.
The closer the revised design is to the original, the better. However, this appliance was designed in 1980. If there is a better, easier, or more preferable way of achieving our goal (effectively and cost efficiently heating the container, turning it off once the cycle is done, and indicating with a light that the cycle is finished, we would be more than happy to consider it.
The finished product here would include a description of the circuit and/or any alternative designs (including the materials that could be used) and a image of the design, either a drawing or using computer software (preferable).
