Cartoonist, writer, reporter, editor
I offer a variety of services, with the only common thread being that they're all communications related. So, if you only have a germ of an idea and you need someone to expand on it, research it, write it up, edit the copy and then illustrate it, consider me one-stop shopping.
Here is a breakdown of my skills/experience in the various services I'm offering.
Cartoonist/illustrator: I've been a cartooning hobbyist my whole life and I've worked on intermittent freelance assignments for over a decade. While I'm especially adept at original character design – particularly animals, aliens or other fantastical creatures - I'm pretty respectable as a caricaturist as well.
Writer: I'm a natural-born storyteller and am very skilled at infusing otherwise dull material with a bit of fun. I once delivered a presentation in college about examples of convergent evolution in the social adaptations of termites and naked mole rats that was greeted by gales of (non-derisive) laughter. I've also written science fiction (mostly with a strong biology component) as a hobbyist.
Reporter/researcher: I have a bachelor's degree in Print Journalism, served as editor in chief of my student newspaper and have worked with several small newspapers – either full-time or freelance – as a reporter. I'm very experienced with online research and conducting interviews. I'm a bit of a news junkie and follow current events – particularly American political and policy developments – pretty closely.
Editor/fact checker: In addition to serving as editor in chief of my student newspaper, I spent three years working as a copyeditor of investigators' reports at a detective agency. This work often involved rewriting the reports of investigators and checking statements of fact against a variety of online sources, publicly available legal documents and surveillance video.
