    Audio/Video Production/Cartoonist/Composer/Humorist

    United States - Tests: 2 - Portfolio: 4

Paul Messing (Artist, Writer, Producer) has been writing and producing original artwork, audio and video material and music for more than 40 years. After graduating from the University of The Arts in 1970, he became Production Director at WMMR-FM in Philadelphia, one of the first progressive FM rock stations of that era. In addition to his own pre-taped overnight music program (“OPUS”), he produced unusual PSAs and station IDs. Many of these are now considered “classic” material, and are still played today. In 1972, Paul became Vice President/Creative Director of Radio Band of America, a creative audio production facility in New York City. For ten years, he wrote and produced hundreds of radio advertising campaigns and TV music scores, working directly with national musicians, actors, singers and comedy writers. His work was recognized on an international level, winning him more than 50 CLIO awards, including 10 gold statuettes by 1981. By 1995, he had spent 10 years collaborating with Czech animator and filmmaker Paul Fierlinger as audio producer, script consultant, composer, and sound designer. This work involved the production of many short animated educational films, including segments for Sesame Street, and culminated in the production of the American Playhouse one hour animated autobiographical film, "Drawn From Memory," which was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and broadcast on PBS in October, 1995. During this time he also composed an original Ballet for the Pennsylvania Ballet. After moving to Bloomington, Indiana in 1998, Paul became affiliated with Indiana University's Department of Radio and Television Services, providing original music scores for documentaries and acting as creative consultant and sound designer/composer for special projects involving both traditional and interactive technology. 7. William Williams

    William Williams

Digital Artist (Illustration, Animation, Retouching and Sound)

    United States - Tests: 2 - Portfolio: 9

I'm a digital arts generalist, and not ashamed to say so. I've always been interested in sites and sounds and never could discard one in favor of the other. Consequently, they reinforce each other in my work. Sound has taught me timing, key framing, and lots of audio manipulation which has come in handy as my still images come to life in animation. I've always been an artist, and I've drawing and sculpting since I was a kid. My greatest influences are Art Deco, English New Romanticism, Italian Renaissance, and comic books. My style of cartooning borrows from old 1930's to 50's comics (my uncle had a great collection) like popeye, archie, or little Nemo. I also have a lot of love for the Underground Comics of the 60's: R. Crumb, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, and anything done by Ralph Bakshi or Los Bros Hernandez. Don't get me wrong, I love the challenge of realism and study anatomy in my spare time. The Digital part of arts started for me when my Irish folk band needed posters. I started with GIMP, and got pretty good on my own. Then my band bought a PA system and I was "voluntold" for sound guy duty. So I learned how to run sound, and from there, recording and mixing in Garageband. This, plus a Liberal Arts degree steeped in Business as much as Fine art, got me a position at OMS Photography in 2007. At OMS I learned Photoshop and Illustrator from production retouchers and photographers who had decades in the business. I barely hung in there, but it was a great if harrowing learning experience. I read all the books at the library, watch tutorials till my eyes bled, and then my managers would teach me how it was really done. I worked product retouching and some lifestyle for Under Armour, Baggallini, Foot Petals, Dear Foam, Reece's, Cintas, Pep Boys, etc. It was a fantastic 5 years. OMS was also growing a digital video department and I was drafted into being a sound tech. I took my home recording experiments and sound reinforcement experience and recorded and edited audio for small documentaries, in house company explainer videos, P&G events. After OMS it's been pull-up-by-your-bootstraps time in the wonderful world of freelancing. I've done some retouching since then, working for RG Barry Brands in Columbus, Ohio, but mostly I get calls for illustration and animation. While I was at OMS I studied Zbrush and Blender, readying myself for a move into 3D. Through Upworks I've done video game assets, corporate digital illustrated portraits, animated web banner ads, educational illustrations for kids, sound editing and audio creation for video, poster layouts and all sorts of stuff.
