Astrophysicist / Data Scientist
I have been working as an astrophysicist for 8 years with an interest in all things 'data science'. I hold a PhD in Physics, Diploma in Statistics and Bachelors in Theoretical Physics with a skill-set that includes:
Data science / analysis / interpretation / visualisation
My research projects to date have included the preparation and cleaning of various datasets, performing statistical analyses, automating algorithms and writing scientific papers. I am seeking opportunities to utilise my skills and expertise in various projects that need to be data mined for, e.g., hypothesis testing, model prediction, image/signal processing, or other analytics / visualisation. To this end I have completed Coursera courses in the Johns Hopkins University "Data Science Specialization" and am undertaking the Stanford "Machine Learning" course by Andrew Ng.
I am fluent in IDL; have experience with Python, R and Octave/MATLAB; and dabbled in MySQL and some HTML.
Otherwise skilled in Linux, Adobe Suites, LaTeX, and Microsoft productivity software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc).
I'm offering a low initial rate open for negotiation as I build up experience - being new to oDesk. Thanks for reading & I look forward to potentially working with you.
Details on my academic research projects and publications are on my old website here:
