In my 20-year career as non-profit program manager and back-office polymath, I’ve edited minutes and articles, written successful grants and sales letters, technical documentation, user guides, and financial reports, and designed newsletters and all manner of public relations and promotional materials. In 2009, I retired from the office of a small non-profit adult care community after ten years building the organization’s community support base, level of fundraising, technical and financial infrastructure, and public relations professionalism. My appeal letters increased every year and ultimately doubled the yield of L’Arche Nehalem Community’s Annual Appeal. Since then, I’ve been writing books, building a writing portfolio, as well as pursuing some creative ventures in other fields. My book of anecdotes, The Depressed Guy’s Book of Wisdom, is published by Chipmunka Publishers, London. I’ve been doing a weekly column on writing as the Sunday Editor of Gather.com’s Writing system portal. I’ve done a huge variety of creative writing during these three years, including non-fiction, stories, poetry, and a full-length young adult novel.
