Creative App Developer/Designer/Project Manager with Killer Skill Set
Last active: 04/24/2014
IN BRIEF: I am a highly creative programmer, project manager, designer, developer, and writer. I design, develop, write, and manage iOS app projects, coding with Corona SDK using my own multimedia book app publishing system.
(I am also a World Press Photo Award-winning photographer specialized in war and disaster — I’ve covered Kosovo, Macedonia, Iraq, Turkey, Thailand, and Syria.)
My specialty is working with clients to finding creative and original solutions to their problems. This means helping clients clearly define their needs and goals, then using my technical, artistic, and literary experience to create and complete the project.
Most recently, I’ve been creating multimedia book apps using a system I developed with Corona SDK, for clients such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium, The California Historical Society, the War Diaries Project, and others. The system is designed for clean graphics and fast interaction, for books with photos and games and text. It even lets the client self-publish using WordPress. So far, I have used it to build eight iOS multimedia apps for the iPad. You can learn more here: http://www.mimetic.com/
I’ve designed and art directed logos, collateral, websites, and multimedia iPad apps for individuals and major public relations firms. I established Prague’s premier graphic design and marketing studio in the 1990’s, and I was AOL.com’s first art director in 1997.
More importantly, I developed and managed projects demanding I contribute programming, UX/UI design, graphic design, copywriting, project management, and client management.
A successful project offers a good return on investment — anything else is a boondoggle. That return can be cash, publicity, or pure personal pleasure — and my job is to help you get that return. Often, I help my clients figure out the product they had in mind simply doesn’t do what they need. At that point, I help them find a new project that does deliver the R.O.I., or we shake hands, and I’ve saved them a lot of money and heartache. That, too, is good service rendered.
Remember, too, I’m a photographer and journalist (with a real master’s degree from U.C. Berkeley). I have reported internationally from Kosovo, Iraq, Turkey, and Thailand. In California, I photographed wildfire firefighting and reported on juvenile justice issues for the Center for Investigative Reporting/KQED. You can see my work at http://www.davidgrossphoto.com/
