PHP Web Application Developer: Focused on Zend Framework and APIs

United States - Last active: 2 days ago - Tests: 4

I've been in the web development field since 2002, when I started as a programmer/admin for a web hosting company. I've worked on a variety of web applications (generally php/MySQL based) ranging from ecommerce to in-house CMS to data mining/feed processing to integrating APIs and web services. I've worked with a number of PHP frameworks (Zend, CodeIgniter, CakePHP), and generally like working with a MVC design pattern. I've developed web applications from the ground up, as well as modified and added functionality to existing custom in-house systems, opensource applications, and commercial applications. I've worked with various APIs, including: Twilio, Twitter, Foursquare, Amazon, PayPal, Drop.io, Sunlight Labs, EmailYak, and others. I've written wrappers for APIs, as well as written APIs for outside integration into applications I've written. I am comfortable working with other developers and designers. In addition I've been asked to do code review and troubleshooting for projects where I had no active role. My profile on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/users/45531/tim-lytle) is a good sample of my ability to communicate the details of a development problem/solution. I'm also a Zend Certified Engineer (http://www.zend.com/store/education/certification/yellow-pages.php#show-ClientCandidateID=ZEND011439) with experience administering apache/mysql/php/etc on Linux (and a bit on Windows). Most of my oDesk clients are buyers who need high-level, conceptual requests to be understood and implemented, and the projects are ongoing long-term relationships.

Senior Front-End/ Back-End Developer (Mobile, Web, Script/ Utilities)

    United States - Last active: 2 days ago - Tests: 4 - Portfolio: 13

I have 10 years of experience in both web and mobile software development as well as script and utility programming. My current main area of interests is within Data Science including data mining/scraping. I have several years of experience in writing screen scrapers for online data sources (scraping in total more than 500 sites). I will be happy to craft a state of the art product for you using the following techs: Bootstrap, AngularJS, BeautifulSoup, Scrapy. I am familiar with many others, but these are my favorite. WEB BACKGROUND I have wide knowledge of many modern technologies in web development stack -- from low-level networking protocols and system tweaking (debian, nginx) to server-side programming (PHP, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis) to client-side programming (HTML5 APIs, Javascript, AngularJS). I could solve the programming task of any complexity for you. I prefer developing complex and unique web services and/or user interfaces rather than creating simple websites which are similar to each other. MOBILE BACKGROUND I am the Owner and CEO of a digital development firm, ebork Developments, LLC, which specializes in the development of mobile applications across all platforms (see below). Strong .NET, Java, Objective-C, and Swift programming skills including low-level performance optimizations and memory management. I not only know how to make an application work, but also know how to make it work fast and smoothly. Good knowledge of Android, iOS, and Windows UI patterns and guidelines. I can prototype any application UI for you. SCRIPT/ UTILITY BACKGROUND I have been writing data scrapers and other data intensive scripts/ utilities for many years. My language of choice for many of these is Python. However, I can successfully develop a utility in many scripting languages, including: PHP, Ruby, Perl, etc. I have written screen scrapers for over 500 websites, including Google Search and Craigslist. I have a very high working knowledge of HTML, which helps me quickly write any screen scraper you find yourself needing.

I am dedicated to adding value to my client' businesses through the use of technology. I achieved this through the unique combination of skills, and my focus on exceptional client service. Enterprise-transforming applications must do more than integrate new, advanced, customer-facing functionality with already existing, core IT assets. Applications have to be able to negotiate a high volume of transactions, across multiple systems and platforms, between millions of data points, in a fraction of a second, seamlessly, flawlessly, and continuously. A failure at any point means the transaction fails. And you don't want that. My corporate portal solutions create browser based decision support systems that empower your middle office workers to effectively perform their jobs. I help you increase employee productivity by integrating your applications and information into a single solution.

Hello, thanks for your interest. I'd love to work on your project, however I'd like to set a few conditions if you hire me. If there is more than 1 dev on the team I insist on peer review and a version control system - I prefer git & github however I'm not opposed to bitbucket and gitlab. Even if I'm the only dev, we should probably use a version control system. I'm also a firm believer in writing tests so changes in one part of the code will not break other parts, it's saved my bacon several times. Testing is one reason why I love working with Flask, and angular.js looks very promising. I would love the opportunity to work on a project that uses angular.js. Even if you don't hire me please implement peer review. That way when you hire me in the future your team is already set up with good habits. Here are a few good articles on the importance of peer review. http://www.techrepublic.com/article/developers-guide-to-peer-reviews/ http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/11-proven-practices-for-peer-review/ Now that I'm done with the peer review PSA (Public service announcement.) Allow me to brag about myself. Over the last 11 years I have taught myself how to program in PHP and Python. I entered my first Basic program into a computer when I was in 3rd grade. I love using jQuery to make a site pop. I run my own .com from home with a Linux server on site. This has given me much insight into how servers are maintained, and backed up. I have set up and maintained the following servers Postfix(email), Apache(http), Nginx(http), Open-ssh(ssh) and used Supervisor and Gunicorn to deploy python web apps. I'm also an avid listener to several podcasts, such as Security Now, Linux Action Show, Techsnap and Coder Radio just to name a few of my favorites. Due to the nature of the NDA (Non-disclosure agreement) I can not list what sites/companies I've worked for, I will however tell you what we've used, and a vague description of the work we've done. On a couple of different projects we've used basic google maps, twitter, and facebook api. Some other common js/css libraries are moment.js, bootstrap, and chosen jquery plugin. Most recently I've been doing backend work. This include python, Flask, Flask's restful api to build the backend for an iphone/android app as well as a web front end to administer the data. The iphone/android dev team created the app with Sencha which I deployed using an nginx server. I also helped develop booking software. This includes reports, calendar, artist/user profiles, timezone management, traveling, accommodations, fees, commissions, venues, repertoire and currency conversion. To date, this has been the most challenging and rewarding project for me. The team I work with are extremely talented. We used Python, Flask, Mako, MongoDB, jQuery, Backbone.js, Underscore.js and Java. With another project we parsed PDFs about [undisclosed] and put the information into a database that could then be searched through based on the information mentioned in the PDFs as well as attaching an expiration date to the information parsed. Other accomplishments include a picture labeling program for HUD home inspections that would insert images into a .doc file when needed. It used a lot of jQuery/ajax calls to assign a case number, address, city, state, zip, and classification with lots of auto-complete. The database was MySQL, and I used headless instance of OpenOffice/LebraOffice with a the pyuno bridge to generate the .doc files. I hosted/managed this site for several years, and developed it as new features were needed. I parsed PDF files to get case information, as well as cut out specific pages that needed to be printed, and sorted them out for specific agents. For another project we used a combination of MongoDB, SOLR, MySQL and CodeIgniter. At the time I left we were in a transitional stage converting the site from an affiliate e-commerce/auction model to an advertising model. This project started out using MongoDB and eventually migrated to MySQL. In my spare time I'm developing a Family Media Player https://github.com/the7erm/fmp-pg It uses pygtk to render it's gui, postgresql for it's database, and gstreamer to play the audio/video. I've been focusing my development efforts on creating a web frontend that utilizes Flask so it can all be controlled via a phone or tablet.
