Over the last two decades I have had the opportunity to design and develop applications on computer systems built by Data-General, DEC, Motorola and IBM as well as numerous PC manufacturers. And I feel that the biggest change to Information Technology Industry has been the introduction of the Internet based technologies. Its these technologies that allow developers to design and build applications that not only work on the internet but also in the office...in the Intranet. They allow the developers to build these applications with one single set of code. These same applications can then run on both the Internet and the Intranet. Not only that, but these same applications run on any computer and any OS that supports a web browser. These same applications are also easy to deploy, as they only need to be setup and installed on one system..the web-server. No need to install or push them down to the users computers, the users just access them using their web-browsers. For these reasons I believe that all serious enterprise level applications will eventually be "web-based", reducing the amount of time and effort required to develop, test and deploy these applications. So, for the last seven years, I have been building on my web-based application design and building skills using the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) technology platform, which allows me to build applications that are very cost effective and scalable.
