    Senior Developer, PM

    Russia - Tests: 5 - Portfolio: 2

I have strong background in UNIX/Linux software development, Master's Degree in Computer Science. I worked on Enterprise high-load distributed hosting automation systems as a Team Leader (3.5 years in SWsoft, Inc., now called Parallels). For the last 6 years I'm running my own small software development business in Russia with primary focus on Python/Django apps. Not pure Web but often involving integration with hardware (Proximity Cards, Sensor Screens) or external systems like Payment Processing, SMS Gateways, GABRIEL (Airline Reservation System), etc. I can take an idea and turn it into a working business, through all the intermediate stages. Also I have experience of investing my own funds in my projects, so I feel the difference between "perfect code" in a month and "good enough" code that increases the revenue right now. Nevertheless, my code is very good: no copy-paste, always written with performance, flexibility and security in mind, etc. On oDesk I'm looking for (and actually find :) interesting projects with a sight on long-term fruitful cooperation. I'm also open to smaller activities (e.g., consulting) where my knowledge can be helpful.

    United States - Tests: 5

I have been in the telecommunications industry for over 13 years and have worked as a consultant to major Fortune 500 companies in the past for both business and technology needs. I have a vast knowledge of anything that relates to the internet, both hardware and software realms and have worked on a variety of projects ranging from the simple to large scale transition ones spanning months at a time. I understand a business' need to get projects done right the first time and have always exceeded my clients goals. If they're not happy, I'm not happy. I have a dual bachelors degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in Business Information Technologies and Business Management. My Masters in Business Administration is in International Business and most IT skills I have picked up on my own or through various courses either online or at the local community college. I look forward to working with you and completing any projects you may have, from the quick fix to an entire server farm rebuild. I am also a word class back end programmer familiar with MySQL, Bash, PHP, Perl, and Python. Please, no front end design work, I don't have an eye for creativity (unless it's something simple of course). I look forward to working with you and any projects you may have for me.

    *nix geek

    Russia - Tests: 7 - Portfolio: 1

Over the last 10 years, I was working with *nix-like OSes. I started from FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and now I use mostly Gentoo Linux. I have developed a big bunch of parsers/small scripts, configured a lot of different software. I have experience with a few different programming languages, mostly Python and bash. I've tried myself in web development (using flask, mongodb, a little of jQuery, etc). At my main job I work as a DevOps/Systems administrator. I use Ansible, ElasticSearch, Gitlab with Gitlab CI, pacemaker, docker, and many more cool things! I also mentor junior developers. Right now I need some extra money, so I'd love to do the following: 1) Ongoing sysadmin stuff. RAID, gmirror, software installation, compilation 2) Automation tasks with Ansible 3) Work with docker containers, write dockerfiles. 4) Do some Python coding to glue things together I can dedicate a few hours every day with more hours on holidays. I usually work between 7-10am CST (8-11am EST).

  10. John Comeau

    John Comeau

expert troubleshooter, generalist developer, tenacious problem solver

    United States - Tests: 2 - Portfolio: 1

"Jack of all trades, master of none" is typically said in a derogatory fashion, but I adopt the title gladly, and you will not likely find more than a few dozen generalists worldwide who can match my troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. I've been programming, on and off, for 40 years, if you count my study of BASIC in 1968, 6 years before I actually got my hands on a computer: the DECSystem-10 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. As a result of working on computers and microcontrollers of various sizes and capabilities over the years, I have learned to get to the basics of a problem, come up with a prototype solution, and refine it to the customer's satisfaction. My methodology, which I found later is used by many successful programmers, is "build one to throw away"... once the code is working, rewrite it from scratch, correcting the false assumptions made in the first attempt, and refactoring to make a clean, maintainable, codebase. My background in both the electrical/electronics side of things plus years of experience reverse-engineering and improving software on dozens of different architectures gives me the rounded background necessary to take on projects which leave specialists lost. I may charge more than most ($100 is my usual rate, but I found it's unrealistic on Odesk), but when you've run up against a brick wall, I can likely find a way over, around, or through it.
