PHP Web App Developer: Any Framework, APIs and UI. 15+ years (USA)

    United States - Last active: 2 days ago - Tests: 6 - Portfolio: 12

Since 1998 I have developed dozens of web applications focusing on a wide-range of industries including custom search engines, affiliate marketing, real estate solutions and worker safety. As an autodidact, I pride myself on learning new technologies and continually improving my skill-set. As a freelancer, I believe in professionalism, clean code and representing my craft to the highest degree possible. On the server-side, Laravel is my current PHP framework of choice, although I am comfortable working with Zend, CodeIgniter, Cake and Yii. For the database layer, I have 14 years of experience with MySQL. On the client-side, I prefer jQuery, Backbone and Twitter Bootstrap. Although I am not a graphic designer, I know my way around the Adobe software suite. I write standard compliant HTML5 and CSS3. I have an eye for useable, clean and obvious functionality. I have experience with many APIs, including Amazon, Box.net, Infusionsoft, Facebook, Twitter, PayPal, eWay, Authorize.net and Google. I can write APIs from scratch and give your application a RESTful interface. I am seeking opportunities to build custom web applications from the ground up or taking an existing code base and improving upon it.

    Senior Developer, PM

    Russia - Last active: 1 day ago - Tests: 5 - Portfolio: 1

I have strong background in UNIX/Linux software development, Master's Degree in Computer Science. I worked on Enterprise high-load distributed hosting automation systems as a Team Leader (3.5 years in SWsoft, Inc., now called Parallels). For the last 6 years I'm running my own small software development business in Russia with primary focus on Python/Django apps. Not pure Web but often involving integration with hardware (Proximity Cards, Sensor Screens) or external systems like Payment Processing, SMS Gateways, GABRIEL (Airline Reservation System), etc. I can take an idea and turn it into a working business, through all the intermediate stages. Also I have experience of investing my own funds in my projects, so I feel the difference between "perfect code" in a month and "good enough" code that increases the revenue right now. Nevertheless, my code is very good: no copy-paste, always written with performance, flexibility and security in mind, etc. On oDesk I'm looking for (and actually find :) interesting projects with a sight on long-term fruitful cooperation. I'm also open to smaller activities (e.g., consulting) where my knowledge can be helpful.

Expert software designer and programmer (Python, Perl, Unix)

    Argentina - Last active: 1 day ago - Tests: 8 - Portfolio: 5

I am a software designer and programmer and Unix admin. I've been programming for 20 years. More than 10 years of working remotely and I think I'm a very good team player. What motivates me most is to learn something new. My main strengths are my academic background (I studied computer science at the UBA university in Argentina) and that I'm a proactive, independent worker. Whenever I can, I find the answers by myself. Currently I'm interested in non UI, back end jobs. I developed websites (not web design) but that's not what I'm looking for right now. Very good knowledge of: Languages: Python, Perl, C, Unix tools. VCS: Git, svn. DB: Postgresql, Mysql. Non rel DBs: Redis. Web frameworks: Django, Catalyst. Bug tracking systems: Jira, Mantis, Bugzilla. I always worked on Unix and all its flavors, so I got a lot of experience on its usage, networking, administration, operating system internals, etc. Different jobs and curiosity by itself made me learn lots of different languages, APIs, frameworks, like Ruby, PHP, Javascript (esp. JQuery), Twitter and FB APIs, Amazon S3, etc.

I turn your ideas into working software.

    United States - Last active: 23 days ago - Tests: 7 - Portfolio: 27

My dad knew I was a programmer before I did. He bought me that first book when I was about 10. That was 28 years ago. I am a programmer with major project experience in every major language, platform, and operating system. I love working with small companies and startups. Whether you need someone to lead your team, program into the wee hours of the night, or just need someone to talk to, I can help. As your next Virtual CTO or chief architect, I can help translate your ideas into working software. As a full stack programmer, I provide frontend programming, backend programming, mobile programming, and infrastructure buildout. Whether solo or as your team lead, I bring years and depth of experience to your business. I tell people that I am a thinking programmer. Not a "ninja", or a "rock star", or someone who "bangs out code". I am not a "Ruby guy" or a "PHP guy", or an "Agile guy" or a "Waterfall guy". I am just your thinking, capable, competent programmer who sees the world in full color and adapts to the situation. Someone who sits down with you and talks plainly about your goals and what it will take to reach them. If I am the right fit, I say so. If I am not the right person, I tell you that too. Building a technology business requires more than just programming skills. Knowing how to put together servers, infrastructure, networking, security, partner integrations, prototyping, and beta testing are factors which heavily influence your success. So as well as being your programmer, I am also your systems architect and technology advocate. Embedded systems projects are flooding Kickstarter, and I love it. If you need to create and program physical devices using Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, Arduino, or chipsets from Intel, ARM, and Motorola, I can offer hands-on help and experience. What about video games? Mobile, desktop, or console? I have experience with many of the top game engines including Unity, Unreal, Cry, Game Maker, and many other game development stacks including retro gaming. Or let's create your own game engine and show them all how it's done :) It has been my privilege to work with top brands like Sony, Nestle, NBC, Polaroid, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, and Adobe. As well, I have worked with many promising startups and am honored to be an oDesk Gold Member, an oDesk All-Star, and oDesk Top Rated Freelancer, and an oDesk Verified Web Developer. I have over 2,500 hours clocked on oDesk, a 5-star rating, and am 99% recommended by over 50 clients. Thank you to oDesk and all my clients who helped make this happen for me, it is a HUGE honor. Building hardware and software through oDesk is my full time occupation. I continually learn new ways and approaches to help you avoid costly mistakes and rework in your next project. If you are considering a new venture, a major addition to your existing software, or just need help crossing the finish line, you may be interested in my free ebook titled "Staying Lean". It teaches you how to build your tech startup *without* big budgets and venture capital. The book is free, all I ask in return is the privilege of keeping in touch with you. http://www.benallfree.com/ebook What do I love right now? What should you be looking at to build your next project? Glad you asked! My clients and I love Laravel, Ruby on Rails (RoR), Ionic, Django, AngularJS, Bootstrap, mobile hybrid apps, iOS, Android, PHP, Symfony, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, mySQL, video, Facebook API, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, Andruino, Twitter API, Single Page Applications (SPA), Auth0 (Hosted Identity Management), Composer, Bower, Node and NodeJS, grunt, SASS or SCSS, and much more!

Consulting Analyst - Application Architect - Project Manager PHP,JS

    Romania - Last active: 3 days ago - Tests: 5 - Portfolio: 5

I graduated in Computer Science at Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania. I also have a masters degree in Advanced Computer Architectures. In 2012 I started my PhD. I have been working as a freelancer for 7 years now but I also had some regular jobs in the past as a software developer at some well known companies but decided to quit so I can only focus on freelance projects. I have experience with most programming languages, from C, C#, Java, C++ to Python, PHP, SQL, Javascript, Haskel, Clips. In the recent years I've mostly programmed PHP, Javascript and custom web applications. Frameworks I've worked with: Zend Framework, CodeIgniter, Django, Drupal, Wordpress, jQuery, Bootstrap, and any other PHP popular framework. I have two partners I work with on all projects, Mihail - developer and Petru - artist. I also have a lot of finished projects, websites I can show on request. Work Policy: * I try to deliver the best quality possible, but this is often a trade-off between time, budget, and the specific project situation. (For example, not all clients would want the time/money investment in creating a full unit test suite). I usually suggest a LAMP stack using either PHP or Python. * I'll be honest. For example, I like giving suggestions on how to save time/money even if that means less billed hours for me. I only work on hourly projects. Thanks!
