I make iOS apps for myself, clients, and employers, and I'm always looking to help new clients build the first version of their app, or to provide maintenance to existing apps that just need a little love.
First and foremost, I believe in following an agile process, and communicating with the customer or stakeholder at all stages. I have worked with agile, scrum, kanban, and extreme programming (XP), and can discuss the pros and cons of each. I manage my own app (LineUp -- see below) day-to-day, and I understand apps beyond just a technical level.
At that more technical level, though, I believe in and follow best practices, including proper dependency management, test driven development (TDD), and clean code. That said, there is a time and place for everything, and I understand the business vs. technical tradeoffs that must be made in developing a product.
I have worked for startups of various sizes, large public companies, individual clients, and myself, on both a freelance and employee basis. At this time, I am looking for work either remote or in Berlin, contract or full-time.
Outside of my work as a software developer, I have worked as a professional lifeguard in Orange County, as a physicist in Berkeley, and as a paralegal in a Silicon Valley law office. I learned German while living in Göttingen, Germany for a year, and live in Berlin now. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Physics and German and, while there, I made a Segway-like robot which balanced itself based on the difference in lighting around it.
I am a generally curious person, and in my spare time I enjoy playing water polo, backpacking, traveling, and playing with new toys.
