Writer, Narrative Designer, Science Background
I am a freelance writer with a background in science. I graduated with a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and conducted research in the field of solar power. I write about everything from technical subjects like graphene and solar energy to human interest topics like cooking, education, health, Millennial culture, and cross-cultural communication. I have nearly ten years of experience in writing and copyediting, including writing scripts for informational videos, creating characters and dialogue for branching storytelling and alternate reality games, and developing engaging business copy like bios and website information.
Because of my background in science, I have a passion for making complex ideas understandable to people from a variety of backgrounds, and with my experience living in both Europe and America, I have a global perspective and the ability to tailor my writing to diverse audiences. While completing my scientific studies, I worked part-time as a writer and program developer for a non-profit organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills. My projects for them included organizing an international conference in Singapore, directing an educational summer camp, writing sketches and plays for their programs, and working with their leadership on a rebranding project. I also developed their social media marketing strategy and drafted a new mission statement and policy documents to support their vision.
To research, write and edit a high-quality blog post or article, I charge around $50 for 300-500 words, $75 for 1,000 words, and $100 for 1500 words. My rates can be negotiated if less research is required. For editing (including academic editing), I charge $8.50 per double-spaced page. For clients who prefer to pay hourly, I can edit approximately six pages in an hour (again, rates negotiable if less significant editing is required).
I look forward to making new connections and expanding my areas of knowledge!
