Expert Systems Architect and Software Developer

    United States - Last active: 08/10/2014 - Tests: 3

I have worked as a solutions architect and software developer for two Fortune 50 companies over the last 10+ years. I've chosen not to put further details on my profile (for now), but I can provide further information of my work history upon request. The reason I've created this profile is just to earn a little extra to help with the arrival of a new baby. I have worked freelance on occasion, but was hoping to find some smaller, more manageable projects versus year-long projects I've taken on in the past. I'm native to the US, and have excellent written and spoken English grammar. Much of my time spent in this industry has been working with teams in China, India, and Mexico, therefore my ability to communicate clearly on details (even where there is a language barrier) is one of my core skills. In the last year (2013-14) I designed a large R-powered analytics system (involving different technologies including MS Server, Linux Redhat, Java, R, C#, shell scripting, etc) and was flown to India to help lead a team in developing it (and yes, it is currently still in use!). My insights & designs are trusted, and I have many years of best-practices under my belt involving software development. I'm not new to freelancing. In 2011 I was hired to develop the Blackberry version of FlightAware. I had never done any Blackberry development, but was the only BB developer hired before the initial release. Someone at the company knew me from previous work and was willing to trust in my ability to ramp up on my own. This was done in addition to my regular day job. In recent months I have been involved with what everyone is calling "Big Data" and have been developing ETL processes to bring in and perform sentiment analysis on social media data from Twitter and Facebook (and others). I am a Gartner member and my company sent me to their last Big Data conference in Las Vegas in April of this year. I code even in my free time. Here is a small sample of smaller projects I've done just for myself or for local non-profits (over the past 3-4 years or so): - Built a Lync connector that publishes my calendar and status info to a website so my wife knows when I'm on a call in my office and what my schedule is for the day/week/month - Wrote code to analyze GPS tracking information (from hiking) along with Video/Picture timestamps which then would output a KML for Google Earth and show where all pictures/video were shot, along with GPS confidence color coded info - Built a "poor man's Youtube" for the Offshoot Film Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas to allow film submissions to be judged remotely by registered judges - Bought a USB-DMX device and coded an API around it so that my PC could control lighting AND sound at a theater - Wrote Forex jobs in Metatrader to assist with some foreign exchange trading strategy executions - Scripted a failover system for my router so that I can keep most of my web machines powered off during the day - Wrote a job that would check my bank balance online and push low balance alerts to my phone - Built a window switcher app for Windows XP so I could easily move windows around like in Windows 7 - Built a plugin for Firefox so you could right-click on videos in Youtube and have them play on XBMC (this was hosted on but looks to be gone now... this was in 2006 or so)
