If anyone asks me to characterize my life in a couple of words, I will say that it is as interesting as I wished, more diverse than I expected, and much more active than I could ever imagined.
My academic carrier started exactly 14 years ago, when I entered BA program in Classical Philology and Georgian Language and Literature. Later on I graduated MA program in Classical studies, and then another MA program in the field of Medieval Studies at Central European University (2004-2005, Budapest, Hungary). I entered PhD programme at the Central European University but have not completed it, because of several objective and personal reasons.
Studies in national and international academic environment gave me a good fundamental knowledge and equipped me with the essential generic and subject specific competencies. As a result of successful completion of BA and MA programs I am able to undertake research at an appropriate level, to search for, process and analyze information from a variety of sources, to work in an international context.
Three years (2008-2011) of working as a head of the library I developed the general competencies essential for the manager, namely planning and organizational, problem-solving, communication and self-development skills. At the same time I learnt principles of human resource and financial, strategic and operations management that are essential for a manager. The study program (mostly distance learning) in Library and Information studies at the Robert Gordon University supported my development in all aspects – as in terms of general skills as well as in subject-specific competencies. The entire course was absolutely relevant to my recent and present activities. My studies at the Robert Gordon University since October, 2009 reflected the strategic planning and practical activities of the library, facilitated development of the new masters program in field and inspired establishment of the Centre for Information Studies, which is the first and the only one at the moment in Georgia.
In three years time Ilia State University Library became the best academic library in Georgia, due to its recently developed resources and services, namely integrated library system, digital library, user-oriented services, subscription to rich electronic databases.
I think, that the “successful story” about my professional life is largely conditioned by my personal characteristic features. I would describe myself as a creative, hardworking person, who is not afraid to take serious responsibilities on herself, has an excellent ability to work in team, as well as to be a good team leader, has very strong desire to learn, acquire knowledge and to share.
