web development / net presence

Australia - Tests: 2 - Portfolio: 4

After graduating in computing, I spent a year developing interfaces and APIs for financial transaction devices in Windows before moving into an area that had more appeal for me : system level communications and messaging, largely focused on a C++ / Unix / Oracle platform. I spent six years mostly juggling messages and communication channels between databases and queues. But I got tired of living in big cities, and hatched an escape plan. I started doing short term contracts for web projects using a range of scripting languages at the server, and AJAX in the browserI began with various short term contracts for web interface development using content management systems and frameworks including Drupal, Django and Node, programming in languages including PHP, Python and Javascript/Coffeescript. I've moved on to building web apps with rich client side frameworks, often with a full javascript stack including mongodb.

Full-stack web developer and Python expert

United Kingdom - Tests: 6 - Portfolio: 1

I'm a widely-experienced web developer, and a Python expert with around 5 years' experience using the language. (It's by far my favourite programming language for most tasks!) I'm very familiar with Django and have worked on a wide variety of Django-based sites. I'm currently working part-time for VODO (, a platform for distributing independent media, where I'm heavily involved in developing the front- and back-end of the site. I'm very well-versed in front-end development; I know my HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (and CoffeeScript!) well and can comfortably and efficiently implement designs from scratch and integrate them with backend code. I'm a fast and enthusiastic learner - I'm currently working on learning Haskell and the fundamentals of functional programming, as well as learning some low-level programming. (I'm really interested in trying out Rust soon!) I'm currently studying Mathematics and Physics at Durham University, in the UK. This means I've had lots of experience with LaTeX and scientific Python, as well as being a fluent user of mathematics. I'd love to take on some projects where I can utilise my mathematical experience!
