    +5 years exp in hosting industry; NIX/WIN servers config/tuning

    Ukraine - Tests: 10 - Portfolio: 1

    During the last 5 years I have been working in a company that provides a full range of hosting tech support. What does this mean? - quick and complete resolution of your problem. Why quick? - because a customer wants their site to be up and running 99.9% of the time. Why complete? - because if the issue is half-fixed now it may arise in the future and the customer will have to move to another provider who can solve the problem (you know hosting is a highly-competitive marketplace). All these factors are forcing me to have (or gain as fast as possible) a wide range of knowledge in system administration, programming, code debugging and customer relationship.

  2. Yury Pukhalsky

    UNIX guru

    Russia - Tests: 4 - Portfolio: 1

    First thing off: I DON'T USE SKYPE nor ICQ (as they are proprietary closed protocols), but I have jabber. 20 years of experience with almost every flavour of industrial unixen, portable programming (C-99, POSIX, autotools), portable shell programming (POSIX.2) — dealt with many subtleties in different implementations. I work fast, if in doubt, ask for the estimate time. Probably it'll be cheaper than hiring someone with lower rate, but who'll spend several times more hours. I'm honest, reliable and tenacious. If I apply, that means that I'm 100% sure I can do the job meeting my high quality standards. The code must “just work”, elegant and concise. There's too much non-working, ugly and bloated stuff around:( Lifetime warranty for my work (doesn't include new features though). • Automating everything • UNIX system programming including embedded systems • Web scraping and any other text transformations/extractions. • Consulting about UNIX shell scripting (bourne shell, bash, awk, sed, [BE]RE etc). • Anyway, the list is not full, as I have experience ranging from Jenkins CI setups and maintenance to writing parsers with lex/yacc. From IP traffic handling in C++ (libnetfilter_queue plus iptables custom kernel module) to product installers. I use Gentoo and EMACS. PS. oDesk thinks my photo isn't “professional”. Therefore I have none. I'm easily googlable though, and if you want you can find any information about me outside of oDesk. PPS. Aquila non captat muscas. Normally.

    C/C++/Perl programmer, Linux/network admin.

    Russia - Tests: 14

    Over the last 10 years, I'm network administrator, architect and CIO in various hosting and ISP companies. Due this I have relatively good skills in Linux/BSD, virtualization, routing and shell/perl-scripting. My previous professional bio can be divided into 4 independent parts: - from 1990 to 1996 -- system programming for PCDOS (Assembler, C) - from 1996 to 1999 -- HPC programming and teaching for MPI, PVM, HP/Convex - from 1997 to 1998 -- programming for DSP controllers - from 1999 to 2003 -- programming, administration and teaching for Lotus Notes/Domino My current targets are: - programming in C, C++ and Perl - building and managing networks - building and managing virtual environments I prefer opensource whenever it's possible, but without zealotry. I think that the best opensource platform is Linux, but without zealotry too. In my opinion, the best Linux distro is Ubuntu LTS, but without any religious zealotry again.
