Marta Rivera Monclova
QA Wizard, WordPress Dev, and Writer of anything
Last active: 09/03/2014
I got my start in tech doing software QA for server migrations and, if you remember such a thing, Y2K. Software and web QA are fun for me, and because of my background in writing and research, I'm quite good at articulating exactly what is broken. Because of my other grounding in tech, I can often even identify what the nature of the bug is.
Going to grad school in the humanities, gave me excellent skills in QA for UI/UX. While I understand the logic of machines, I think and speak in the language of humans.
I develop WordPress sites, and have several under my belt. I'm not a designer or an artist, so I work best with folks who have a clear aesthetic idea of what they want, and I will make that happen. I am happy to work with your graphic designers, as well! I used to develop sites in the old days, as well, so my basic HTML and CSS are pretty solid for modifying whatever you need to make the site what you want. I can also operate in Drupal or other environments as needed.
Lastly, I'm a writer. I have a PhD in English. I can research and write anything and edit your content. I have published two articles in peer-reviewed journals, and successfully defended a dissertation. I have presented papers I've written at large conferences, and have taught writing for 10 years at the college level both in the U.S. and abroad.
Skills I don't have yet, but am developing include: Python and Java (with an eye towards Android development). I would like to make the move into more coding, not because I don't love QA, WordPress dev, and writing, but because I constantly strive to be learning new things.
