    John Johnson

    Sr. Software Developer

    United States - Tests: 9

I have been developing applications, specifically for the Windows platform, for over 15 years. I tend to do more web development and database development these days, but I have written my fair share of desktop applications and Windows services as well. I started out writing VB5/VB6 client/server applications while going to college. After a year or so, I made the switch to ASP & COM (web development). When .NET was released as Beta 1, I was lucky enough to be working for a company that let me spend some time doing a little R&D, and I haven't looked back. I am a guy that attempts to do find the "simplest" way of doing something. I find "over-engineering" an application to be a complete waste of time and resources. When coding, I try to assume that the next developer that will be working on the application will be a "junior" developer. This helps keep the code neat and simple; the architecture the same. I have worn many hats over the years, but tend to thrive when working as a contractor in a telecommute position. I love to work late. I drink a lot of coffee. And, I have a fairly nice home office setup. Thanks for reading. I hope to work with you in the future. - John

    Backend programmer with NFC experience

    Russia - Tests: 1 - Portfolio: 1

Hi, I've been working in IT since 2003. I have worked mostly as a backend programmer and system architect for several e-commerce and mobile commerce startups that are well known in Russia and the post-Soviet space: * http://money.yandex.ru/ * http://mobi-money.ru/ * http://money.beeline.ru For these projects I have used PHP, C, Java, MySQL, Linux, Memcached, regular expressions, XSLT, SOAP and many other things. Three years ago I moved into the NFC world and since then I've been developing innovative payment and ticketing NFC services for a start-up company. One service is already in use and allows passengers of Moscow's "AeroExpress" trains to use their PayPass/PayWave bank cards: http://www.aeroexpress.ru/ru/press_releases/news20081285.html I developed a distributed system that includes: * Multithreaded servers for each train station that manages dozens of NFC readers and turnstiles and processes transactions in pseudo-realtime mode with delayed transaction authentication. * A central server that provides back office interface for tech support and accountants, collects logs and other information from station servers, and distributes black and white lists of cards across all stations connected to the system. Sometime ago I made a few minor commits to an opensource LibNFC library that made it possible to use it to communicate between a NFC reader and Mifare-enabled USIM cards and dual interface contactless smart cards with mifare functionality. I started to use Ruby as a main programming language in 2008. I should note that my Ruby experience is quite different from a great majority of ruby programmers; I use Ruby not only for Rails but also for communicating with different types of hardware using binary TCP-based protocols or serial ports. Rails are used mostly for creating backoffices (ActiveAdmin) and API web-services.
