Jon Gaillard III
My name is Jon Gaillard and I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in August 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Sciences. I have recently enrolled in the Project Management Graduate Program at the University of Maryland University College.
At the University of Maryland, I have taken many courses in GIS and remote sensing, including: Introductory and Advanced Geographic Information Systems, Programming for GIS, Advanced Cartography and Advanced Digital Image Processing. The GIS courses implemented the use of ESRI’s ArcGIS software, as well as RSI’s ENVI and R statistical computing software. In addition, I have gained some knowledge in python scripting, spatial databases, and GIS models. I believe that I can learn a great deal from your organization, and make a substantial contribution to current projects at the same time.
In the Summer of 2007, I completed a 15 week internship with the Fairfax County Park Authority as a GIS Analyst Intern. I was in charge of performing a needs assessment of athletic fields in the county and creating maps for projected field use and population growth. This opportunity gave me extensive professional experience in terms of project and time management, as well as teamwork and public speaking.
In June 2010, I began working as a GIS Analyst at H & R Retail, Inc., in Baltimore, Maryland. I was responsible for providing GIS services to multiple commercial real estate brokers in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area, including: maps, aerials, brochures, and other publications. I was also responsible for providing these same GIS products to many nationwide retailers, including: Target, Petsmart, Giant Food, and Staples. I have gained a great deal of professional and customer service experience working at H & R Retail, however I made the decision to resign to finish my college education.
In August of 2012, I began working as a Utility Pole Inspector with Utilimap Corporation. I was responsible for working as part of a team to inspect utility poles in the Baltimore metropolitan area as part of the Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) Company's Distribution Line Clearance Program. This program was designed as part of BGE's annual inspection process to ensure that power distribution lines are maintained at safe levels. During the inspection process I was responsible for collecting utility pole and GPS data using ArcGIS, and entering this data into a geodatabase. This opportunity has strengthened my GIS and professional skills, which would be a great benefit to your organization. I resigned from Utilimap Corporation in July 2013 to accept a position of greater opportunity.
In August of 2013, I began working as a Stray Voltage Technician with Davey Resource Group. I am responsible for performing inspections of underground and pad-mounted electrical equipment to determine if any stray voltage is present. After the inspection is complete, the GPS of the equipment is taken and data is entered into a geodatabase using ArcGIS mobile. I have been able to further strengthen my GIS skills, as well as my project and time management skills.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss any freelance opportunities that are currently available. I can be reached by email at email@example.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
