Experienced researcher, writer and telecoms analyst
Last active: 2 months ago
As someone who has worked as a freelance researcher, writer and analyst for nearly 13 years, I can offer skill, professionalism and expertise across a range of topic areas and project types. My clients have comprised leading UK consultancy and research businesses in the areas of telecoms, IT, green technology and media analysis.
Projects undertaken have ranged from short articles to major reports on European environmental regulation, ICT outsourcing and the Latin American mobile market (2014). Other work has included country telecoms market reports and company profiles; desktop and telephone research on strategic or technological topics; analysis of global and regional cloud-computing and M2M markets; maintenance of a specialist database on telecoms BSS/OSS contracts; industry analyses and market forecasts; and detailed analytical reports on the media performance of major corporations across a range of industry sectors.
Most of my work as a professional researcher, writer and analyst has been focused on the global telecoms industry, with particular expertise on European and Latin American markets (especially broadband infrastructure roll-outs and product marketing, and mobile networks and services), and telecoms and networked IT (especially the BSS/OSS sector and cloud computing).
A particular success factor in my work as a telecoms-industry researcher and analyst has been my language skills: a native English speaker, I also speak and write fluent French and German, and professional-standard Italian and Portuguese, along with having a working knowledge of related languages such as Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish. These language skills have often enabled me to more rapidly locate superior contacts for business research projects and access more detailed information than would be available to monolingual researchers. I have also undertaken specialised translation work on a number of occasions.
Prior to working as a freelance researcher and writer, I was a Senior Analyst at the UK-based research firm Analysys Research (now Analysys Mason Ltd). At that company, I acquired significant project-management and team-leadership experience, as I managed a number of successful online-publishing projects, moving on to managing and developing the company's whole online-publishing operation. Responsibilities included co-ordination and functional development of the online-publishing system, and playing a major role in a re-launch of the company's online-publishing platform and portal.
Other professional experience and skills include:
- Academic research, including study in Cambridge and Paris towards a PhD in French
- Teaching, including French language and literature at Cambridge University, and teaching English as a foreign language
- Sales, marketing and administration across a number of roles, including in my capacity as project manager at Analysys, responsible for the profit and loss of publishing products, and also: work for a small importer of nursery furniture; work for a brewing company and distributor to the licensed trade; and temporary assignments for different companies
- Numeracy and ability to analyse complex data sets, including analysis of detailed market data, company accounts and specialist databases tracking the media performance of major corporations.
My career objective in the present is to expand the number and type of clients for whom I work on a freelance basis, as well as to utilise the full range of my skills, including languages and project management alongside expert research, writing and analysis.
I am keen to develop good relationships with regular clients for whom I can play a significant part in adding value to their business.
I am hard-working, conscientious and professional, and highly experienced at taking on and delivering demanding freelance projects within deadline and budget.
Looking forward to working with you.
