Great copy writing is a balancing act. On the one side you have boundless imagination and infinite possibilities - the need to capture the attention of an audience, tell a great story and create emotional investment in the product. On the other side are the functional requirements of the project - the structure needed to hit selling points, understand the market and ensure that the message is clear, concise and on brief.
Creative writing is my great passion. I have a background in writing for film and comics, which allowed me develop a range of tones, voices and how to combine them in order to tell the best "story". These days my storytelling is primarily in service of brands and products.
Working for a production company as a writer, video editor and producer, has given me the advertising experience needed to create copy on brief. I've seen video and print campaigns from many different angles, which was crucial in helping me understand what is required in every part of the chain. Many writers only have experience from that point of view, which can be limiting.
