Currently doing a few different things. Among them: - Cloudformation and infrastructure design on AWS: - Autoscaling, S3, couchbase, node applications, Chef - Javascript Single Page Application design: - React.js, gulp, semantic-ui - Fluid Dynamics/Modelling in Processing: - Side project, not professional. Navier-Stokes, numerical methods, computer graphics, etc. I previously developed provisioning and deployment solutions for a client's in-house automated testing infrastructure. The majority of this was done in Ruby, with some variations dictated by DSLs in Chef and Vagrant, as well as a number of scripting languages, as required. I've also managed a team of 3-5 software engineers working on provisioning automation/DevOps projects. Current Frameworks and JS tools: React.js, backbone.js, gulp.js, bower, browserify, node, etc... More to come shortly. Current Languages: JavaScript, Ruby, Chef, Batch, BASH, Powershell, XML, JSON, AutoIT Current Tools: Chef, Amazon Web Services, Vagrant, Ant, InstallAnywhere, Install4j Current Operating Systems (configuration, software deployment, etc): Windows Server (2003 - 2012) SLES 11 RedHat 6.4 CentOS 6.4 Ubuntu 12.04/14.04 Amazon Linux Past Languages: Processing, C++, Java, OpenGL, Octave, MATLAB, Mathematica, SQL, C, C#, LUA, R, and Python Other: Verilog, VHDL, Oculus Rift, Razer Hydra

I'm a mathematician with strong background in abstract and academic branches of maths. Besides that, I'm ruby (RoR) and haskell developer. Ruby on rails: participated in various projects in which I was backend developer. Typical tasks I've been doing: creating APIs, developing models' logic, gem maintenance, creating small frameworks (for other team members), server management. Haskell is a point of my academic interest, my experience in it mostly consists of implementing algorithms, creating small programs. In addition I'm good at physics and cryptography, that can be useful.

Experienced Web Developer (Ruby on Rails/SaaS)

    United Kingdom - Last active: 24 days ago - Tests: 6 - Portfolio: 11

My website is available at http://www.rehanjaffer.com/ for some idea of what I do in my spare time, programming-wise. As a child I aspired to be an inventor. Lego blocks, circuits, anything I could get my hands on, I'd experiment with and learn what I could do with it. I dreamed of a day when I would be able to build a robot myself. Programming was been the first practical realisation of that aspiration, as it allowed innovation and creation, the ability to dream or envision a website or application and turn it into reality. With the right set of tools, an idea can be brought to life. As a result of what some might call 'obsessive traits' my knowledge is quite diverse and in many cases the interests merge. My own deeper studying of psychology aids in eCommerce development and design by understanding the need, where possible, for empirical testing, along with being able to apply standard human behaviour (i.e less clicks to purchase leading to a greater chance of buying). It has also lead me to understand my own blind-spots and where to compensate for them in programming. An example of this would be the confirmation bias experiment where participants were asked to identify the next number in a sequence and work out the rule. The sequence they were given was 2, 4, 6. Most correctly guessed the next number would be 8, but incorrectly guessed that the rule was "adding 2 to each new number", when in fact it was simply "any set of ascending numbers". The failure to test alternative hypotheses was confirmed in other similar experiments, and there are practical applications of this in unit testing. A simple example being testing the cases that should work, and not testing cases that shouldn't, something far too common. In development, this has resulted in me specialising in a few key areas (specifically Rails and Ruby) while also understanding the full stack from servers down to interpreter internals. I'm able to write code in most major languages, but to truly know a language requires learning the idioms, experiences with common issues and bottlenecks, and knowing the best practices.

Programming has always been a calling for me, so it makes sense to do it for a living. However, I've got a number of other callings including music, photography, engineering, biking, baking and travel, so I don't want to put myself on a corporate career path that forces me into 1-week-off-per-year jobs. I've tried that and - luckily - escaped, hopefully never to return to Corporate America to discuss Facebook tactics with the Marketing Exec on a lunch meeting. My objective is to do what I love: to create and maintain beautiful solutions for small businesses and real people - to create logic from the chaos of life.

    Junior Ruby programmer

Netherlands - Last active: 2 days ago - Tests: 1

My favorite thing to do - right after designing and sketching - as an engineering student was computer programming. I am a highly creative person and tried to make it as an artist. Luckily out of my creativity came the love back for programming. Parametric design and CNC milling and printing techniques are forming my will and interest to dive deeper in the field of computer programming, but now I can also make myself useful as a web developer. I like working on web applications and software scripting. Ruby, Rails and Sinatra are my favorite. As a long term vision I do see myself using my skills in math, computers and design to bring my field of work closer to that of architects, animators and other creatives. I also paint. Most interestingly here about this probably is my perspective drawing talent which could be useful at some point for visualizing ideas. I am truly gifted with this and a quality fineline watercolor sketch could lead to surprising insights for your business.
