I am a native speaker of Urdu and Punjabi, currently doing PhD in Translation Studies from University of Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. I have also earned MPhil Linguistics and MA English Language and Literature degrees, and hold around six years experience of serving as a university lecturer in English. Capitalizing on the literary and linguistic skills gained from this rich educational and professional experience, I have been providing a variety of linguistic services - translation, language tutoring, editing/review, QA, transcription, second language test development, voice-over, and grammar evaluation - to several leading companies including, but not limited to, Language Services Associates, Avant Assessment, Appen Butler Hill, and VistaTEC. My work has been duly appreciated by the companies/agencies I have worked with so far, with the result that most of them are now my permanent clients.
Also, I have been running a blog on translation, and have written research papers in translation and codeswitching. This experience has helped enhance my linguistic, literary, and translation know-how and skills, helping me view translation, transcreation, adaptation, etc. as not just interlingual integration, but as intercultural communication. I, thus, try to understand the purpose of a translation task as well as the cultural specifics of the source and target texts while doing my work.
As mentioned earlier, I have about six years experience of working as a lecturer in English at a public-sector university. While there, I taught a variety of courses in English language, linguistics, and literature, such as English grammar, communication skills, sociolinguistics, stylistics, discourse analysis, semantics, classical drama, and romantic poetry. My teaching methodology and style, and my helpful attitude, were much appreciated by my students, with the outcome that, according to the results of the end-of-semester teacher evaluations by the students, I achieved 'the best teacher of the year' position in the department of English for two consecutive years.
