Machine learning, pattern recognition, image analysis, sys developer

    Italy - Last active: 1 day ago - Tests: 17 - Portfolio: 1

I am a computer scientist whose main skills are in the field of data analysis, pattern recognition, statistical software, machine learning and large scale system design and integration. I have developed systems using Neural Networks, Markov chains, Support Vector Machines in various applications: OCR, image processing, data analysis, text indexing and retrieval. I am also proficient in 3D image visualization using common off the shelf libraries and methodologies, either low or high level, like OpenGL, DirectX, VTK, Java3D. I understand and use common ray tracing programs. I understand image processing topics like segmentation, thresholding, classification. I have worked in the past in a 3d Face recognition European project. I know the OpenCV library quite well. In the field of "general programming" I have a good understanding of Databases, multi threaded applications, sockets, pipes, encryption (symmetric and asymmetric), compiler design, operating systems, low level data structure in memory and on disk, data integrity. I consider myself an expert in data structures and algorithms: trees, queues, lists, b-trees, hash tables; I use standard libraries like STL, Boost, Java generics. I have a good knowledge of SQL and data normalization however I have also used custom No-SQL databases like Datadraw, MapDB, Tokyo Cabinet, Zope. I know all the basic algorithms and templates used in every day coding; regarding data integrity and security. Compression (lossy and lossless), symmetric and asymmetric encryption, public certificates, I have worked with OpenSSL programming, encrypted web services, packet sniffers. I am proficient in all the common every day languages with an emphasis on C++ and Perl. But I can use: Java, Python, Visual Basic, C#, PLSQL, Delphi. I know all the Object Oriented Programming concepts and design patterns and I use them if the need arises, but I am also able to write object-free programs in C or functional languages (like Haskell or Scheme). I know modern version control systems like git and mercurial, even if I can use also older ones like Subversion or CVS. I know Windows programming and API quite well. I have used WPF and WCF to create desktop applications in Windows and web services. I have used Linux and Gui toolkits like Qt which are platform independent. I know XML, XSL, I have used several parsers like the MsXML or Xpath. I know how to validate a XML with a schema. I have worked with a team that handled thousands of XML documents relating to air crashes in a SQL server database. I am able to talk and write in English with fluency. If anything is not listed here either I have forgotten to list it or I can probably learn it quite fast, so don't hesitate in asking!

Haskell Programmer / Writer / Editor

Malaysia - Last active: 5 days ago - Tests: 4

I am a full fledged, card carrying, fanboy of the Haskell programming language. I have programmed in languages as diverse as x86 assembly, basic, C, C++, Java, php, and python, but Haskell seems to satisfy a need I always knew was there, but didn't know how to address. That isn't to say there are not problems with the language, but I can honestly say that it is the best that I have encountered. Hence my passion for it. I am an experienced, third generation writer with over a decade of copy under my belt. My writing reflects a clear passion for wordsmithing, and a constant awareness of the tradeoff between clarity and conciseness. I have a particular interest in editing academic papers of all disciplines, and although my own academic qualifications are limited to computer systems and electrical engineering, my dabbling is eclectic. My services are offered in the spirit of contribution, and my rate is negotiable on projects that command my professional interest.

    Mathematician, Programmer and Translator

    Germany - Last active: 3 days ago - Tests: 18 - Portfolio: 5

I just finished my studies of mathematics with focus on physics and computer sciences in Iceland. Next to my studies, I have been programming already for several years on a freelance basis and provide professional translation services. The programs that I created so far mostly are GUI applications under Windows, as well as web-based applications using PHP and javascript. In addition to these experiences, I have also intensive knowledge of C/C++, Matlab, R, and various other programming languages. You can see some of my programs in my portfolio and on my website. In addition to being a programmer, I have also several years of experience as a translator. As a German native speaker, I mostly translate from English to German, and occasionally from German to English. I have lived abroad for more than three years now, and therefore know a couple of other languages as well. These include French, Icelandic, Swedish, Dutch and Bulgarian. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes, Tom Schiller

    Machine Learning Specialist

    United States - Last active: 01/19/2014 - Tests: 4

I worked as an artificial intelligence specialist at Pearson for several months after my freshman year of college. I have created novel approaches to a number of natural language processing challenges, and have soundly beat the Stanford NLP project on a number of standard benchmarks. I was scouted by Basis technologies during my sophomore year for work alongside PhDs in the field of Digital Forensics, and Natural Language Processing. I released the first and only open-source sentiment analysis library with near state-of-the-art benchmarks. I have pioneered a number of novel approaches in the fields of predictive analytics and big data analysis, regularly acting as a consultant for the Harvard Innovation Lab. I am currently working with one of the original developers of SolidWorks to create an adaptive gesture recognition platform interfacing with the Leap Motion. I'm fairly new to oDesk, and though I've used it regularly as a project manager, I've not yet signed up as a contractor. Looking for part-time work to discover cool new problems. I am extremely comfortable implementing support vector machines, genetic algorithms, neural nets, latent semantic indexing, pachinko allocation, and a wide variety of other machine learning algorithms, both supervised and unsupervised in Java, Python, C, Ruby, and Javascript.

    Scientific/Exploratory Lisp Programmer

Poland - Last active: 18 days ago - Tests: 7

I'm a physics student with broad interests in mathematics, computer science, cognitive science and space exploration. I'm looking for challenging projects incorporating mathematical concepts, with a strong emphasis on exploration and prototyping. Delivering production-ready applications is less fun to me than thinking of something original and challenging. I prefer to be forced to explore an uncharted territory than to follow "industry best practice". My language of choice is the Lisp family (especially SBCL and Racket). I'm also strongly dragged towards functional languages (mostly Haskell and Ocaml). I'm ready to learn new stuff if it means thrill, excitement and novelty.

Mathematician, physicist, ruby and haskell developer.

Belarus - Last active: 2 days ago - Tests: 1

I'm a mathematician with strong background in abstract and academic branches of maths. Besides that, I'm ruby (RoR) and haskell developer. Ruby on rails: participated in various projects in which I was backend developer. Typical tasks I've been doing: creating APIs, developing models' logic, gem maintenance, creating small frameworks (for other team members), server management. Haskell is a point of my academic interest, my experience in it mostly consists of implementing algorithms, creating small programs. In addition I'm good at physics and cryptography, that can be useful.

Canada - Last active: 5 days ago - Tests: 2

I am a writer, and have been since my early teens. Now, at this period of my life, I have scientific training, modern dance training, and philosophical training, and computer science training. I have been an avid reader of Scientific American for my whole life. That too, was an education. I can write technical documentation, I can write reflective prose, as well as descriptive writing. I can write computer code too. Currently I am putting together a website in an effort to assist me in finding work. http://www.laureltree-information-solutions.web44.net/ I will be adding content to that page regularly, and am available at any time for work. I have many writing skills that I was not able to add below. What is listed is from my recent university training. .
