Mary Caffrey is an award-winning writer with more than 20 years' experience in the public policy arena. Her writing reflects her knowledge of government, politics, business and the regulatory environment. After a successful career in journalism, Ms. Caffrey served as Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs in the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. From 2002 to 2003, she worked for the passage of landmark auto insurance reforms that changed New Jersey's notoriously difficult regulatory environment. The legislation led to the return of GEICO, Progressive and other insurers to New Jersey. Ms. Caffrey, who holds a New Jersey insurance license, also writes frequently about public sector retirement costs and utility regulation. Her government career includes positions at the state, county and local level, and she also served four years as a media relations officer at Princeton University. A graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, Ms. Caffrey lives in Robbinsville, N.J.
