I have a J.D. and a B.A. For many years I worked as an appellate attorney, practicing in both state and federal courts. I also practiced in the areas of criminal defense, employment law, and personal injury litigation. For several years, I was a part-time law school instructor of legal research and writing. I also did some part-time editing for a legal publication and occasionally served as a legal analyst.
While I maintain a mailing address in the United States, a few years ago I took an early retirement and moved overseas to pursue a more relaxing lifestyle. For most of the year, I live on a tropical island in Asia. Although I write fiction as a hobby, I supplement my income by doing a variety of contract writing, editing, and legal analysis.
Most of clients have law-related websites, for which I produce blog posts, informative articles, FAQs, eBooks, and landing pages. In addition, I have done academic and professional ghostwriting, including preparation of academic papers, website articles, and political position papers. On occasion I edit books for self-published authors.
Finally, I draft and edit legal documents and briefs for attorneys. Since that work is more intense and demanding than writing articles for websites, I charge a higher hourly rate for work of that nature.
Although legal research and analysis is a specialty, I have a broad academic background in English literature, politics, and social sciences. My book blog is popular and I was once a front page writer for a well-regarded legal/political blog. I am available part-time for freelance assignments only.
