Linux System Administrator / Infrastructure Architect

    United Kingdom - Last active: 10/15/2014 - Tests: 1

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to read my professional work profile and if on any point you would like clarification or detail please contact me, I would be very happy to answer any questions you have. On a general level, I am a very experienced Unix (HP-UX & RedHat/ CentOS) system administrator. Though I have been involved recently in the infrastructure & architecture/ design/ solution space (fleshing out the details in a plan and performing deep-dive discovery) at heart I am a real techie and love problem solving, performance tuning, automation and generally making sure your UNIX based servers are operating as best as they possibly can. I am best at server build (physical or virtual) and operating system & subsystem configuration tasks (more recently RedHat/CentOS) either manually or automated (PXE/Kickstart/Puppet) with expert level knowledge of Korn shell scripting and bash. I also have extensive knowledge of storage area networks (SAN) on HP and EMC storage arrays and TCP/IP networking and associated protocols (TFTP/SSH/FTP/HTTP/DNS/ etc) as well as firewalls/ iptables. I can also perform higher level activities such as project management & infrastructure consultancy. I spend a great deal of my own time keeping my skills up to date, even if in some roles I don't get to use them, I think it's incredible important to be able to discuss issues and contribute towards a solution at the hands on technical level. I've been working with computers since the mid 1980's and still have my interest intact, from low level machine code programming on a single machine to providing disaster recovery architecture consultancy services in metropolitan data centres to oil companies so I have a lot of experience and knowledge to depart. Having worked in the industry for approaching three decades and as an independent freelancer for two, I am a seasoned veteran, well aware of what 'goes with the job' - whether working away from home for extended periods or moving heaven and earth to get it done, I'll do it. I have a rock solid work ethic (word is my bond) and this is plainly obvious with the results I deliver myself or when I'm contributing to a team effort. I have the client-facing skills to translate any technical issue into a business impact statement to high levels of company hierarchy and also convert a business imperative into technical considerations. Thanks for reading a summary of what I'm about - I hope you'll infer from this I am a credit to any workforce. P.S. Rates are always negotiable depending on the task.
