English and Spanish translator and writer

Argentina - Last active: 2 months ago - Tests: 4

Currently a Linguistics and Literature student in university, I dedicated my life to the study and understanding of English. With several trips abroad (both to the US and the UK) under my belt, I've felt extremelly comfortable using both languages since I was a very young child. I'm a native Spanish speaker with a Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) provided by the University of Cambridge. My major (called in Spanish "Licenciatura en Letras") has given and continues to give me a profound understanding of grammatical structures and the little subtleties that form a language. This ability proves its importance when translating a text. Regarding my trips abroad, while a turist in the US, I was also a student in a regular public school while my father was in town for business. To the UK, on the other hand, I went specifically to further my English studies, attending Southbourne School of English during a four week period in two separate occasions. The rate established on my profile is NOT final and I'm open for negotiations.

    Writer and Editor

I have 9 years experience writing for web/print, as well as experience in office administration, education, and web content management. I recently earned my MFA in Creative Writing from the City College of New York, but before that, I worked as a Grants Assistant and Web Content Manager for CAFAmerica, an international grant maker. I developed business and marketing materials (web and print), researched and wrote features for the website, and helped launch our online services and social media accounts. Many of my daily tasks were administrative; I fielded inquiries from international clients and the press, managed databases, and prepared mailings. As a Newsletter Editor and International Capital Markets News Analyst at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), I authored and edited in-depth monthly newsletters, wrote briefing notes, and developed educational materials for executive staff and international clients. Much of the work I did involved distilling complex financial policy news into concise, digestible summaries, which is a challenge I particularly enjoyed. I am as comfortable with long-term research projects as I am with writing quick articles under tight deadlines. I believe that my experience and drive would allow me to contribute in meaningful and substantive ways.

Over the past 20 years I have worked diligently to reach and educate all types of students in many different locations and through various types of media. I began as a classroom Spanish teacher where I educated college bound youths in a relevant second language. Next I saw a need in the community for competent English as a Second Language teachers due to the increasing level of immigrants in the area. I changed focus to that fulfilling career. Last year I began to realize the importance of on-line education. I started by selling lessons to a website in Brazil. I moved on to teaching on the Internet with an established educational provider so that I could learn how on-line education works. Working as a freelance educator/translator/writer is the next logical step.

I specialize in English Language and Literature. Jobs that I do well vary from translation, creative fiction, academic writing to spelling and grammar check, essay writing about American or English Literature and History. As a well-educated individual I know a lot about mythology, philosophy, psychology, physics and mathematics, art history, world religions and world literature. I could write a good article or essay about something related to any of these areas of knowledge. Shameless self-promotion, I know :P. But hey if you wanna test my claim, feel free to contact me for a chat. -------------------------- I have been working with various video editing programs since I was 16. What started as a hobby turned into freelancing during my college years. I created commercials for local TV stations (TV Leskovac in Serbia, K1 TV), presentations for a high school (Grammar School of Leskovac) and civil activist groups. Some of my work is on the Internet (check out my portfolio): I aim to improve my skills with every video I make and introduce innovation. -------------------------- I have been working as a web administrator and editor for 8 months now ( http://www.99posto.org/srpski ). My goal is to further advance my IT skills in every area, but particularly HTML coding, SEO and SNO marketing. -------------------------- Part of my research as a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade is to improve computer software by introducing new knowledge from linguistic semantics in the coding of language. This could lead to better translation programs and more efficient online language learning.
