I bring 21 years of professional expertise to this sacred process of writing as a published author, independent scholar, and executive manager in the nonprofit arena. I provide editing, research, freelance and ghost writing, public speaking (e.g., workshops, sermons, and lectures), grant writing, grant reviewing, project management, and nonprofit consulting. My passion, skill, and experience in these many aspects of writing place me in a unique position to assist individual and organizational clients. My specialty areas include writing from a historical perspective, research, copy editing, grant writing, and project management. In September 2007, I founded Writing the World, LLC. This woman-owned small business is a registered Limited Liability Corporation in Colorado, U.S.A. I revamped my organizational website (www.writingtheworld.com) and started a blog on Hope from History in November 2013. Beginning with one editing client, I have worked with an additional twelve individuals and groups. I have been researcher and editor for author Rudolf C. Gelsey for almost seven years, beginning with his second book and now his third one, Mending Our Broken World: a Path to Perpetual Peace (4th edition, 2014). I also consult with his new nonprofit group, Perpetual Peace Initiative. I edit individual, one-time projects such as an independent scholar’s journal article (2014), doctoral student’s dissertation (2012), author’s first political intrigue novel (2009-10), among others. I provide copy editing plus substantive review. My primary passion has been writing since I first learned the alphabet. Throughout my schooling and career, I have called upon this skill. For example, in the early part of my professional life as a social worker, I wrote newsletter articles for the organization. I continued this journalistic strand in almost every other organization. Graduate work further strengthened my writing (M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Ph.D. in Religion and Social Change from University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology Joint Ph.D. Program) along with honing my critical thinking and research capabilities. With this foundation, I became a published author in 2003. I publish book reviews in a variety of periodicals: The International Journal on World Peace, Nebraska History, Peace & Change, and The History Teacher. I produced numerous encyclopedia articles for BlackPast.Org along with others in forthcoming works, University of Kentucky African American Encyclopedia and Encyclopedia of American Historic Sites and Landmarks. Two chapters in anthologies discuss the lives and labor of former betabeleros (Mexican-origin beet field workers) in the sugar industry of Western Nebraska. My first full length book brings to life the spiritual journey of L. Maria Child (1802-1880), one of the most well-known activists and authors of 19th-century America (forthcoming from Swedenborg Foundation). Starting in the nonprofit world in 1993, I put my writing and communication skills to work as a successful grant writer and project manager. At New Foundations Nonviolence Center (1993-2005), I rose from Development Director to Executive Director. I remained in the latter capacity at Colorado Women’s Agenda (2005-6) where I developed three new programs: Inclusiveness Initiative, Grassroots Organizing, and Internship Program. I provided grant writing and editorial skills to Greater Denver Interfaith Alliance (2007-10). With Votaw Colony Museum, Inc., I co-coordinated our two-day public history events held in different locations in eastern Kansas (2006-11). I especially enjoyed my project management work at BlackPast.Org (2008-13) where I coordinated photo permissions for the group’s online reference center and developed a new section on African American and African Diaspora Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) history. Currently, I help New Community move forward in their organizational growth from an all-volunteer organization to one with paid staff and adequate funding.
