Maria Child (1802-1880), one of the most well-known activists and authors of 19th-century America (forthcoming from Swedenborg Foundation). Starting in the nonprofit world in 1993, I put my writing and communication skills to work as a successful grant writer and project manager. At New Foundations Nonviolence Center (1993-2005), I rose from Development Director to Executive Director. I remained in the latter capacity at Colorado Women’s Agenda (2005-6) where I developed three new programs: Inclusiveness Initiative, Grassroots Organizing, and Internship Program. I provided grant writing and editorial skills to Greater Denver Interfaith Alliance (2007-10). With Votaw Colony Museum, Inc., I co-coordinated our two-day public history events held in different locations in eastern Kansas (2006-11). I especially enjoyed my project management work at BlackPast.Org (2008-13) where I coordinated photo permissions for the group’s online reference center and developed a new section on African American and African Diaspora Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) history. Currently, I help New Community move forward in their organizational growth from an all-volunteer organization to one with paid staff and adequate funding.
