With more than ten years of experience in the fields of government relations, public relations, grassroots advocacy, writing and editing, and general strategic communications strategy, I have framed debates, created content, raised awareness, mobilized advocates, developed and led comprehensive campaign strategies, written and edited compelling articles and newsletters on tight deadlines, and worked with relevant and targeted media outlets to further the goals and aims of the organizations that I work with.
In all of these instances, the result has been success measured through broader awareness - among stakeholders, lawmakers, journalists or the general public - of issues, products or legislation of importance to my clients and employers through the development and placement of relevant, compelling content.
My areas of focus have been on working with clients in the healthcare, health IT, technology, and food and beverage sectors – the areas that I am most passionate about. I have worked with leading corporations, start-ups, membership and nonprofit organizations and everything in between. Throughout my career, I have been involved in every aspect of developing and executing successful strategic communications plans and strategies.
Some recent highlights of my work include:
When the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC), a leading home care trade association, needed to improve its strategic communications among its membership, the organization called on me to review, revise and reinvent the organization’s e-newsletters and other communications vehicles. The result was a more targeted, relevant and newsworthy membership benefit that improved the organization’s standing among its membership, affiliate organizations, and home care and hospice journalists. This successful engagement led to other projects including position papers, in-depth strategic analysis, and developing and executing a successful social media strategy.
Working with HDMS, a health data software company and Aetna subsidiary, I implemented a comprehensive strategic communications program comprised of traditional and digital outreach, byline article drafting and editing, interviews with key stakeholders, press release development and distribution, and guided the brand to broader awareness and recognition among both the health IT press and the organization’s targeted consumer base. I also facilitated joint outreach between HDMS and some if its key clients including L3 Communications, Lowes, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, to name a few.
In my work with Intercede, a UK-based cyber security firm, I helped the company raise its profile among IT security, government, and consumer publications to raise the company’s profile in the US – and particularly among C-suite executives who would benefit from Intercede’s products and services. In elevating Intercede’s US profile, I led the effort to draft, edit and distribute a white paper to relevant media and stakeholders that positioned Intercede as a major thought leader in identity management and security. My efforts also led to Intercede being mentioned on both CBS and NBC’s regional broadcasts and in print publications as diverse as the Washington Post, RCRWireless, Government Computer News, SC Magazine, Dark Reading and (IN)Secure among others.
