My main objective is to utilize my gift-curse in writing using oDesk as an outlet while I'm in law school. My works have been published in our high school, university, and post-grad publications. I was also the News Editor for our high school paper. If you want to have a glimpse of my writing skills, check out my writing portfolio. My belief is that writing should be vivid and melodious without losing its crisp and brevity. My work ethic is my pride. I work efficiently, accurately, and always beat deadlines: you'll get the commissioned work on time or my work is free. I specialize in persuasive writing with the help of my background in Psychology. My other specialties are: proofreading and editing technical documents and other text; writing and editing proposals, e-books, non-fiction and fiction books (novels); writing keyword articles; writing blogs and articles; and creative writing.

    United States - Last active: 07/23/2012 - Tests: 6

I have been a creative writer since childhood, but only for my own enjoyment. Several years ago I started my own copy editing business, Get It Write!, wherein I provided only editing services. Shortly thereafter, I was asked to be the cover story writer for a local magazine, Matthews Living, which grew and evolved into South Charlotte Living Magazine. My role with the magazine expanded to writing a travel article, as well as an additional general interest article on the topic of my choice. In January 2012 I assumed the role of chief executive editor of the magazine and oversee the creative side, as well as the sales side. The magazine is published bimonthly and I am looking for other editing/writing opportunities to fill the gap, so to speak. I addition, I am an elected official in the town of Matthews, NC, serving as a town commissioner.

Expert Writer/Editor with Eight Years' Legal Experience

    United States - Last active: 08/29/2014 - Tests: 2

My goal is to find a flexible freelance position or a series of freelance projects that make use of my extensive writing experience. I have excellent writing and grammar skills and I already have experience in managing a part-time writing job on top of a full-time work schedule. For the past 8 years, I have worked part-time as the Pleadings Editor for the LexisNexis Mealey's Group Report on Labor and Employment Law, a Reed Elsevier publication, while working full-time as an attorney. Initially, beginning in August 2006, I served as the only Research and Writing Specialist, which is an appellate attorney position, for the Federal Defender in the U.S. District of Delaware. There, I composed all briefs, motions, sentencing memoranda, and other written materials for the District Court, the Third Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court that were produced by my office. I moved on in February 2007 to a position as an Assistant Public Defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, the most prestigious public defender service in the country. I spent 5 and a half years there, handling thousands of criminal cases on behalf of the indigent at all levels of the Philadelphia criminal justice system, and 2 of my years were spent in the Major Trial Unit where I worked on complex felonies. A good deal of my work involved juvenile justice and mental health. I wrote extensively as a part of that job, and served as a member of the in-house continuing legal education faculty. From the Defender Association, I moved on to a practice in labor and ERISA law at Jennings Sigmond, P.C., where I represented labor unions and their members in state and federal court, at grievance arbitration, and before various state and local agencies. I also engaged in extensive civil litigation on behalf of ERISA-regulated employee benefit funds to protect union members' health and retirement benefits. The majority of my time at the firm was spent writing lengthy briefs, motions, and pleadings of all kinds. I graduated cum laude from Franklin & Marshall College in 2001 with a B.A. in Government and a minor in Russian Language, and earned my J.D. at Temple University in 2006. I served as a teaching assistant to the director of Temple's legal research and writing department, one of the best in the country, for two years during law school, and won the prize for best paper in constitutional law at graduation. This fall, I will be pursuing a Master's in Social Work at Bryn Mawr College.
