Creative Writer, Screenwriter, Ghostwriter, Editor, Visual Artist

I have extensive experience in writing, ghostwriting and editing. Projects include fiction, non-fiction, creative non-fiction (memoir) and screenwriting. I excel at finding the story-within-the story, developing raw ideas and showcasing the heart of the work. Collaborating with others comes easily to me - I'm an idea factory if you want that, but I can just as easily do a quick and clean edit.
My website - sacredsensualliving.com - is a laboratory where I explore subjects and ideas that interest me through my writing and artwork. Sacred Sensual Living is about using your sensory experiences as a way to live in a state of presence and connection. Beauty and meaning go hand-in-hand as they lead you to your most authentic self.
Throughout the process of turning a first-time author's loosely-written memoir into a political suspense novel I wore many hats - from consultant to ghostwriter, from editor to cheerleader. It's easy for me to put myself into someone else's shoes and understand where they're coming from and where they want the story to go. The author offers this testimonial:
"Amy was easy to work with and professional. She understood what I wanted to achieve and contributed her own ideas as well. As a ghostwriter, she was able to write in my voice and convey my ideas effectively. She understands what it takes to construct a novel and develop characters. Her enthusiasm for my project was encouraging and it was easy to share my ideas with her. She works hard and produces timely, quality results." - M.D. Sellers, aspiring author
Just about everyone has a story. Not everyone realizes what it takes to shape that story into a compelling piece that will engage and move readers. It's actually quite complex. I've been through the process and understand what makes a story come alive and how to grasp the audience's attention. I can create vivid and meaningful description, write character dialogue and wrangle large amounts of information into a compelling plot.
I've edited numerous fiction and non-fiction works for friends just because I enjoy it. I can see the big picture and the details at the same time which enables me shape a draft so it's cohesive and easily-readable. One editing client had this to say:
"Amy has edited numerous pieces for me, from newsletters to research papers to my graduate thesis. She has consistently polished up my work so it reads easily and flows naturally, without changing my style or the essence of what I'm saying. Her suggestions and comments about how to pull the meaning out of a piece to really engage the reader were extremely helpful. Also, I've consulted with her about a book I'm considering writing, and if I proceed with the project I will absolutely hire her to work with me on it as a (ghost)writer, editor and consultant. She is enthusiastic and clever, not to mention professional and respectful." - Peter Criswell, Executive Director, Big Apple Performing Arts
My eight years of experience as an Executive Director of non-profit arts organizations provided extensive non-fiction writing experience, and I had the pleasure of working closely with a variety of artists, musicians, actors and writers. I understand the creative process and I have great reverence when working with creative people.
I have a Master's Degree, and I've taken a variety of writing workshops including Story Structure and Screenplay (Re)Writing. The best way to learn how to write, though, is to write, read, revise and polish - over and over again. I've done that, and I welcome the opportunity to work with people who value the craft.
I look forward to working with you!
