Full-stack web developer and Python expert

    United Kingdom - Last active: 3 months ago - Tests: 6 - Portfolio: 1

I'm a widely-experienced web developer, and a Python expert with around 5 years' experience using the language. (It's by far my favourite programming language for most tasks!) I'm very familiar with Django and have worked on a wide variety of Django-based sites. I'm currently working part-time for VODO (http://vodo.net), a platform for distributing independent media, where I'm heavily involved in developing the front- and back-end of the site. I'm very well-versed in front-end development; I know my HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (and CoffeeScript!) well and can comfortably and efficiently implement designs from scratch and integrate them with backend code. I'm a fast and enthusiastic learner - I'm currently working on learning Haskell and the fundamentals of functional programming, as well as learning some low-level programming. (I'm really interested in trying out Rust soon!) I'm currently studying Mathematics and Physics at Durham University, in the UK. This means I've had lots of experience with LaTeX and scientific Python, as well as being a fluent user of mathematics. I'd love to take on some projects where I can utilise my mathematical experience!

    Javascript/Node.js Developer

United Kingdom - Last active: 3 days ago - Tests: 2

Hi! I'm a web developer with experience in a variety of front end technologies, including Javascript MV* frameworks such as backbone, Ember, AngularJS and React, utilities like jQuery and css frameworks such as bootstrap, and extensive experience with working in Javascript in general. I used to work extensively in coffeescript, now preferring ES6 to keep up with the future of Javascript. I like using processors like LESS and Stylus to organise my css and make it easier to manage, and I'd much rather write my html with Jade than raw. I pride myself in producing high quality code, building out projects with intelligent and thoughtful structure, with a mind for future development and maintenance. I don't work particularly fast, and I'm happy with that. I have also worked a lot with Node.js on the backend, constructing APIs for front end heavy apps and producing server side, template based sites alike. I've used plenty of databases, mainly MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis. I've got a good understanding of Python and Ruby, and though I'd rarely use it out of choice, a working knowledge of PHP. With these skills I am capable of creating custom web applications, as well as any general web frontend and backend work. You can check out my github, https://github.com/mdlawson/, to see what kind of things I've been working on recently. Aside from web development I've also been developing skills in Java and Android development fuelled by my degree program, and worked with C and systems programming, giving me an appreciation of the lower levels.
