Kevin von Flotow
Hi! I have been a programming nerd for the past 20 years. It is my main hobby, and it's basically the only thing I do. My primary focus has been backend and frontend web design, but I have also dabbled in software and video game development. One of my strong points has been creating software for businesses to use internally as a way to increase productivity, which I think often goes overlooked.
For web development my preferred backend is Node.js with Express, using EJS for templates, and MongoDB and Redis databases. When needed I also have experience with using nginx as a reverse proxy, a static cache server, and for load balancing. For frontend design I tend to use Bootstrap as a starting point and make custom designs based on that.
I often deploy projects using Heroku, and can also set up more complex environments using a VPS like Digital Ocean.
I have spent a great deal of time working with real-time/web sockets (mostly Socket.IO), user accounts/authentication (Passport/JWT), load balancing/clustering.
Frameworks/modules: Node.js, ExpressJS, Socket.io, Mongoose, Passport, JWT, EJS, Stylus, RequireJS, Browserify, jQuery, Bootstrap.
Databases: MongoDB, Redis, MySQL, PostgreSQL, IndexedDB.
For video game development I typically use Unity, LÖVE, Phaser, or a custom engine (opengl/webgl).
