    For those of us who used to call ourselves "Systems Programmers", the opportunities of combining systems are only getting more and more exciting. ESB, Web Hooks, EDI, ETL, are all technologies that are now letting small teams do what entire corporations once did. Personally I am excited to be a programmer at this time in computer science history. I actually love doing what some see as an invisible art. I have done various DB conversions on a file basis, as well as cross-platform replication and EDI. More recently I have built an agent to keep amazon, overstock.com and 11 other online e-portals in sync with multiple .com e-commerce SaaS platforms, including inventory management. Additionally built a shipping metering system that includes all 4 big shippers, and maps product types and restrictions to the various restrictions of the shippers. Batteries, frozen food, oxygen generators, live animals and medical samples can be in the same cart, shipped domestically or internationally and a combined quote from (potentially, based on policy) multiple shippers can be returned within a couple seconds. I love this kind of stuff. Currently I have a 3 hr/month support commitment for a weather network that gets forecasts/readings from NOAA and several other sources, which consists of occasional moments of unannounced data format changes and long periods of nothing. 4 outages in 3 years, with a total downtime of 23hrs. Java, AJAX, Velocity, MuleESB. 30 year professional career with the fortune of working with many excellent teams. Extensive work in Scandinavia and Japan. Willing to travel 25% including international to support team and client activities.
