[oDesk top 20] Experienced Web App Developer - Ruby, Rails, Agile, TDD

    United States - Last active: 4 months ago - Tests: 6 - Portfolio: 12

My goal is a pragmatic one: I write great software the easiest way possible. Easiest doesn't necessarily mean fastest... it means pretty fast, with a very low bug count, easy to change, and to spec. I focus on solving business problems rather than building the "coolest toy ever" -- some people call that effectatious, but that's not really a word. In March of 2010, I was recognized by oDesk as one of their top web developers based on feedback scores. In February of 2011, I was interviewed by oDesk and was one of three "featured contractors." You can read their article here: http://www.odesk.com/w/jobs/contractor-case-study/johnathan_wright_ruby_on_rails_developer About my experience: I have worked on at least 7 enterprise-level applications in the medical, e-commerce, CMS, real estate and auction spaces. I have worked on probably a dozen smaller applications both for clients and personal use, and have released three open-source programs, all written in Ruby. I generally work in a language named Ruby, using Ruby on Rails, a software tool that facilitates getting top-quality websites built expeditiously. In the course of building websites, I often work with javascript and AJAX. My style of development could easily be described as Agile, XP or TDD. I try to keep up on other up-to-date patterns and tools. In addition to Ruby and javascript, I have worked with at least 4 other languages and two other web frameworks. In terms of seeing whether we will be a fit, here are a few things I look for in a project / client: - I require challenging projects and the technical freedom to solve your problems. - I thrive on projects where clients describe business problems and we work together to find a way to make mitigate or resolve them. (the opposite being a deck of screen shots... if you have a deck of screen shots, we probably are not a fit.) - When working with geographically-disparate teams, I prefer small, well-qualified development teams (from 1 to 3 developers, where at least one of the other two developers is very experienced.)  - I prefer to work on projects that clearly contribute business value to the organizations they support, rather than facebook apps, pet projects, or random experiments. Feel free to contact me with questions. Good luck on your project!

    Senior Ruby on Rails developer

    Ukraine - Last active: 05/07/2014 - Tests: 3 - Portfolio: 4

Hello, I am a senior web developer with 5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails (which also includes the 2 years of Rails 3.x experience, and recent several months on Rails 4 as well). Majority of time I focus on large scale projects with high level of workload. I have recent experience with both MySQL and Postgres. Also I have less recent experience with Oracle and MS SQL databases in web applications. In my everyday work I actively use JavaScript with jQuery, CoffeeScript, HTML, HAML, CSS, SASS/SCSS. And I have extensive experience of test driven development and behaviour driven development with RSpec, Cucumber, Capybara, MiniTest & Selenium. Also I have system administration skills with Unix-like operating systems, which will allow me to install all the necessary software to get the project running at any stage. For the source control I most frequently use Git, as well as Subversion/CVS (when necessity arises). Also I do have experience with virtual teams with regular scrums via Skype, management of the tasks via RedMine/PivotalTracker and similar task tracker. Some of my previous recent projects I worked on include: - https://www.lawdingo.com - both backend and frontend developer - https://www.voz.io - both backend and frontend developer, system administrator - http://www.casinoslots.net - backend developer, system administrator - http://www.tripedy.com - both backend and frontend developer - Cognition (private system for Global Rev Gen Pty Ltd - http://www.globalrevgen.com/home#tech) - backend developer, , system administrator - http://www.burstsms.com - system administator The introduction above can be a bit dry, I understand, but ... well, DRY principle is what the real Rubyist values most ;)
