I am interested in how the construction of culture and politics impacts everyday life. For my final research paper, I wrote about the shifting image of masculinity in popular arts. My analysis focused on the depictions the Philippine national hero Lapu-Lapu. Some of the sources I looked at were komiks, films, and monuments from the post-WWII era. Another major work was for a course titled Violence, Myth, and Memory. I created a documentary putting self-conducted interviews with Indonesian students in dialogue with images of gender and sexuality in the Indonesian media. I was fascinated to see the disparity between the stories of lived identity and how they are represented on TV. For these projects, I learned how to record and transcribe oral history, which aided in my internship at the Wing Luke. In my internship, I worked with oral testimonies from Japanese-Americans interned during WWII in America. I worked independently transcribing audio from interviews with the elders in the community about their experiences and carefully scanning documents into the electronic archive. This required me to use photoshop to edit the documents for clarity. From these experiences I have learned how to use many computer programs from photoshop, excel, word, outlook, powerpoint, and data entry. I can use these skills along with my research ability to help you with any task you may need and complete it in a timely and efficient manner.
