    VBA / Office Specialist

    United States - Last active: 1 month ago - Tests: 1 - Portfolio: 4

I apply my knowledge of the wide range of IT technologies and processes I have encountered in my career to every new project that I am involved in. I have an innate ability quickly to see the most efficient solution to almost every problem that I encounter. I have saved my past employers both money and manpower with the solutions that I have created. I have worked as a programmer, systems analyst, a Windows/UNIX system administrator, app developer, database architect, process improver, mainframe maintainer, and general all around computer guy throughout my career. When I start a new project I put all of my attention and effort into it until the end because I feel that is the best way to serve my customers. I am always professional in my interactions with all my customers and associates. I have used MS Office to create numerous solutions to various issues in an enterprise environment. The most impactful are listed below. -Created a scheduling database to ensure that all mainframe jobs and other tasks were completed for daily batch and post-processing. This greatly cut down on errors and omissions that were done in the past. -Created a server and workstation application in MS Access for Dental Advisors to review disputed claims. This application worked with mainframe data extracts, an external pictures database, and an internal database. It also gathered input from two other departments. This brought the company in full compliance with regulatory and privacy obligations. -Created a billing database for Small Groups to ensure proper and accurate billing. This helped the company retain business and saved many man-hours of work monthly. -Created many macros for Word and Excel to help others automate repetitive tasks thereby improving efficiency in the workplace. I have created databases in Lotus Notes to store production history. This helped the company comply with legal historical requirements by putting the data in one repository. I designed and created a many-table database to hold mainframe data in order to streamline ad-hoc reporting. I wrote Cobol programs to extract the mainframe's VSAM data into multiple flat files for input into a DB2 database running on an AIX server . This allowed us to create new reports for Sales and others in hours instead of the company's standard of weeks. I was half of the team that was most likely the first VSE mainframe shop to run without a mainframe printer. We utilized a beta version of mainframe TCP/IP software to push reports to a network printer and/or PDF files for emailing. This greatly cut electricity and paper costs as well as an hour from the nightly batch.

    Canada - Last active: 1 day ago - Tests: 9 - Portfolio: 4

My English talents were developed through wide-ranging reading and university study. I love turning awkward, cluttered writing into clear, engaging prose. My proofreader side delights in picking through documents, looking for that tricky O masquerading as a 0 in your data. I've worked in the media localization industry and edited, proofread, and formatted English master files for translators. I am familiar with the major style guides, and I can readily adapt to a client’s stylistic preferences. I use either MS Word with track changes or Google Docs: your choice. I'm also a volunteer who makes e-books for Project Gutenberg.

LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/in/jmdots Summary I've worked in technical administration, technical support, customer service or leadership roles for all but a few months of my adult life. In this time, I climbed the ranks of a highly-modern, lightning-paced, large-scale, multi-OS supercomputing environment in Area B of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) and became an avid user of all things open source. The place which was my professional home of over six years is known as the “Air Force Research Laboratory DoD Supercomputing Resource Center” or "AFRL DSRC" for short. The AFRL DSRC environment is home to the #19 supercomputer on the June 2011 Top500 Supercomputer List, a mammoth computer for which I received training: Cray Inc.'s "Raptor" XE6. Detailed-Oriented Professional - Strong Skills in Writing and MS Excel

    United States - Last active: 2 months ago - Tests: 8 - Portfolio: 2

With recent legal training and seven years' work experience in a small-business accounting office, I have learned and acquired the skill of completing detailed, accurate work within set deadlines. Remembering the little things as well as the big picture is essential to good writing and to designing financial spreadsheets. Concise, persuasive, and well-edited writing was a strong focus in my law-school studies. (I recently graduated from law school and am licensed to practice law in California and the State of Washington.) I'm eager to assist writers in any facet of document editing—from proofreading, to style critique, to content review. And don't worry, I won't introduce "legalese"; I believe that simple, clear, direct content is best. The important thing is for your message to be heard. In the seven years I worked as a bookkeeper for hospitality and real-estate-development enterprises, I gained considerable skill with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. I succeeded in providing my employer with spreadsheets that automated many aspects of our data entry and accounting calculations. (See my portfolio for a sample of my work.) Most of those projects involved importing and exporting data between Excel and our accounting software. Most also required me to create fairly complex macros, so I have some knowledge of VBA code. Using Excel features such as conditional formatting, data validation, conditional macros, and worksheet protection, I was able to design applications that could be safely and easily used by employees who were unfamiliar with Excel. My bookkeeping work also gave me experience in high-volume data entry and financial reconciliations. Being able to quickly enter data without errors was one of my strong points.
