Freelance Graphic Designer
Last active: 1 day ago
I am a freelance designer with 15 years experience within the graphic design industry.
I call myself a graphic designer first and foremost, yet I have skills and passions in many areas of journalism, photography, typography, design, marketing, branding, computing, Internet and troubleshooting. Okay, I lied a little. I'm not passionate about troubleshooting but I seem to have a mind that's tuned to that sort of thing.
I have been called a pragmatist and while that might sound boring, I like to make all my designs as simple, practical and logical as possible and if I manage to make them look great too then I feel I've succeeded. I'm really not a "wow" kind of designer, but I do create stuff that works nicely and looks good. To quote Charles Mingus, "Making the simple complicated is commonplace; Making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity."
I was a team leader and designer at The New York Times Creative Services Center, a design hub for 12 newspapers, an experience which was great fun and broadened my expertise immensely.
I've always had a fascination with all things printed. There's something special about being able to physically touch something you've designed, to feel the texture on different mediums and see how it looks in different light.
Types of printed products I design include:
• Newspaper and magazine covers and pages
• Newspaper, magazine and direct mail ads
• Business cards and letterhead
• Stationery and invitations
• Brochures and flyers
• Posters and signage
• Reports and forms
Recently, I commenced into the world of web design and am enjoying it immensely. If you need a simple website or web ad and want a hardworking, skilled, down-to-Earth designer, look no further.
