    Freelance writer, editor, and publisher

    United States - Last active: 1 month ago - Tests: 7 - Portfolio: 3

I have operated, promoted, edited, and funded Leaf Garden Press for several years. We've published twelve issues of a literature and arts journal and a few collections of poetry. All LGP publications were designed and edited by a small volunteer staff and myself. Likewise, I help other small presses with their book designs and publication through Kindle Direct Publishing, Smashwords, Lulu, and CreateSpace. My personal publication credits include three books (not including 30+ ghostwritten books), several anthologies, and about forty-fifty appearances in online and print magazines. I'm seeking opportunities to branch out and work with new clients as well as to network with other like-minded individuals that are interested in the publishing industry, especially those that prefer self-publishing. --- Publishing and formatting services: My specialty is formatting for Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords. With vast knowledge of Kindle devices, I am able to produce content in several methods, either as Word documents or Mobi files. I am also proficient with EPUB formats.Kindle Direct Publishing will put your ebook on Amazon (for all the countries they sell to). Smashwords will distribute your book to Apple (iBooks), Barnes and Noble (Nook), Kobo, Sony, and many other retailers. This keeps the process simpler than trying to submit the book to each retailer individually. My suggestion for publishing an ebook is always going to be the same. If you want the best compatibility and the most retailers, then format the book for Smashwords and adjust that formatting for Kindle. This will create a book that is compatible with older generations of a Kindle device, which are still heavily in use today. This is also an easy way to save on costs. If you're more worried about fancy formatting, I can help there as well by formatting the Kindle book using HTML coding and taking advantage of KF8 formatting. Just keep in mind that this limits the compatibility. I always offer to help with the submissions process! This is included in the costs. --- Editing services: For editing and proofreading, I offer the use of the track changes features in Microsoft Word or the use of commenting and annotations for Adobe PDFs. This allows you to personally review my suggestions or changes and decide if you agree with them or not. Edits and proofreading include checking sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting errors, and much more. For larger projects, I almost always do a preliminary read and create a list of common mistakes or troubled areas that I address with the writer first, which gives me a strong advantage during the actual editing process. I pride myself on sticking behind my work, and I am always happy to discuss your project and my edits (even if I've already been paid). --- Writing services: In terms of writing, I am a very flexible writer. If the subject can be easily researched online, in libraries, and through databases, I have no problem writing on topics I'm unfamiliar with. I've written in a number of niches, including financial, automobiles, security, travel, food, raising chickens, survival, yoga, healthcare, and much more. Almost no topic is too daunting unless you need jargon-heavy, technical writing. --- Free consultation: Are your confused or unsure what you really need? No worries! I offer free consultation on any publishing projects. I'll go as far as taking a look at your book or other projects and tell you my initial thoughts on what your projects needs and what I suggest. So even if you don't hire me, I can happily point you in the right direction and help educate you about the process. Is there anything I haven't covered here? Simply contact me, and there's a good chance I can help you or know someone that can. While my rates are flexible and depend on length of work, time restraints, and other factors, typical costs are as follows: Rewriting and writing based on outlines: $0.01 cents per word. Writing requiring research and creation: $0.015 - $0.02 cents per word. Editing and proofreading: $1 per 250 words.* Formatting for Kindle, Smashwords, EPUB, or print will depend on length. Costs are usually between $40 to $100 for basic formatting. I will typically be willing to give discounts to repeat clients and clients requesting more than one service at a time. I especially try to take care of my repeat clients that are easy to work with. All my work is subject to reasonable revisions even after payment is made, and I love to stay connected with clients long after the job is done, even if we don't actually exchange money again. All prices include the oDesk fee. Naturally, I'm happy to accept tips.

    English-Polish Translator

    Poland - Last active: 7 days ago - Tests: 3 - Portfolio: 5

English is my hobby. I use it every day and try to improve my skills any way I can. I found that translation is one of the best possible ways to become fluent in the use of English. I can tell which sentence sounds more natural. I know slang terms (American English) and idioms. This makes me less likely to misinterpret a given sentence. My subjects of interest include: biology, biotechnology, literature, movies, video games. I type fast (around 450cpm) - hourly rate equals a decent amount of work done.

Transcription / 97 WPM / Perfectionist / Reliable / Rate Per Audio Hr.

    United States - Last active: 13 days ago - Tests: 8 - Portfolio: 20

Objective: To provide 100% accurate transcriptions of audio/video in a timely manner (the time frame to be decided by the client). I will follow whatever style guide the client selects. My profile hourly rate is per audio/video hour, not per labor hour. I have recently raised my rate from $75 per hour to $100 per hour when comparing what work I typically do to what TranscriptionWing charges for similar work. Using their calculator at http://www.transcriptionwing.com/price.html, for 60 minutes of good quality audio with no accents and identifying speakers, they estimate $107.40 for delivery in 5 business days. Typically I deliver transcripts for audio with foreign accents and audio challenges within one day for 60 minutes of audio. Their estimated price for comparable work is $209.40. So my current rate is quite a bargain especially when you consider that I give specialized attention to every client, tailoring the transcript to their specifications instead of using a standard catch-all format that some companies use. Raising my previous rate of $1.25 per audio minute to my current rate of $1.67 per audio minute is still a bargain compared to CastingWords.com. CastingWords charges $2.50 per minute for a 1 day TAT, $1.50 per minute for a 6 day TAT, and $1.00 per minute as their budget rate. I normally have a 1 day or less TAT for good quality audio/video lengths of up to 2 hours (American accents), as either strict verbatim or slightly edited verbatim, completely proofread, delivered in .doc format. I am willing to negotiate for specific assignments, however. My current AWPM is 97 with 99% accuracy. I currently transcribe at around 4 minutes per audio/video minute for good quality audio/video. I am a perfectionist, and I thrive in work where perfection is highly valued. I am steadily working towards my goal of 260 WPM with 100% accuracy. I want to perfect my transcription skills, meaning to transcribe the final copy of an audio/video in real time. The industry standard is one hour per 15 minutes of audio. So my goal is to transcribe 15 minutes of audio/video in 15 minutes flat, with 100% accuracy (correct formatting, spelling, grammar, punctuation). I am a native speaker of American English and transcribe with American spellings. I use _The Oxford Guide to World English_ to help me with other accents. While working for CastingWords, I transcribed British, Australian, and some other world accents. I am familiar with speakers from India. I can transcribe audio with multiple speakers, as I had done for CastingWords. I have specialized knowledge in the Internet marketing, music, mathematics, and education fields. I also have great knowledge of the King James Version of the Bible. In the near future, I plan to earn a degree in Medical Transcription and earn the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist. Besides my specialties, I have a wide range of knowledge over many subjects, from sciences to computer technology and video games, and many others. I have good skills in researching unknown terms, and I love to learn new things everyday.
